X-MEN SENTINEL UNLEASHED AT LONDON VENUE

by Dave Elliott

In a world exclusive the ultimate X-Men experience arrived at The O2, London, as the authentic 18-foot tall Sentinel robot used in blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past was unveiled as part of the Sky Store X-Men experience.

In celebration of the film’s Digital HD release to Buy & Keep in Sky Store and subsequently on 3D Blu-ray™, Blu-ray™ and DVD on 10th November, the Sentinel will wow passers-by for two weeks as part of an interactive X-Men experience that also includes state of the art augmented reality, and an exhibition of props and costumes from the smash hit film.

The enormous robotic Sentinel, a mutant-hunting weapon programmed to capture or kill in the film’s 1970s set scenes, joined exhibition with spectacular smoke and lighting effects and was welcomed by hoards of X-Men fans in fancy dress as it landed with a bang in the Greenwich venue.

The Sentinel originally took eight weeks to build and weighs over 2,000 pounds.  It was shipped to the UK in six separate crates and took a team of twelve people over ten hours to construct overnight in the O2 before it was spectacularly unveiled. This is the first time it has ever been seen outside of a movie set.

A spokesperson from Twentieth Century Fox said:  “We are beyond excited to unleash the Sentinel on the British public in partnership with Sky Studios.  It’s totally breathtaking to behold an 18-foot working film prop like this, which really has to be seen up close to be believed.  The UK has played such a huge part in the X-Men franchise, not least its sterling ensemble cast, so it’s fitting that the Sentinel makes its mark here in London in this world exclusive.”

The Sentinel is beloved by X-Men fans who eagerly awaited its X-Men debut and were blown away when it first graced the screens in summer blockbuster X-Men: Days of Future Past.  Now forms part of an exhibition dedicated to the hit film, which also features iconic props and costumes such as the brown leather jacket worn by Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and the wheelchair used by Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy).  The Sentinel will grace the area for two weeks, giving children the chance to visit during school half term and pose for Sentinel Selfies in a designated spot.

X-Men fans will also be invited to put their mutant powers to the test in an absorbing experience using state of the art augmented reality technology. The experience will give them claws like Wolverine, the power to eject lightning bolts like Storm, or hurl metal objects like Magneto and all visitors receive souvenir digital photos.

The Sky Store X-Men Experience also gives fans the chance to take their seats at the Sky News HD desk to present the headlines from major scenes in X-Men: Days of Future Past.  It is open daily between 12pm-8pm. All the magical scenes and creations will be captured and uploaded to an online portal, so that family and friends can witness your legendary fight against the energy blasting death machine.

The Sky Store X-Men Experience is open daily 12pm – 8pm at Sky Studios, The O2, London in celebration of the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past to Buy & Keep in Sky Store.  Entry is free of charge.  Visit www.sky.com/TheO2 for more information.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will be available on Buy & Keep in Sky Store from 20th October and on 3D Blu-ray™, Blu-ray™ and DVD on 10th November from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
