Jenna Coleman leaves Doctor Who

The impossible indecisive girl has finally made up her mind, and is leaving Peter Capaldi’s Doctor to take on the role of Queen Victoria in an epic new ITV series Victoria. The 8 part drama will follow the entire reign of England’s 2nd longest serving monarch. This was rumoured earlier in the week, but she confirmed it on BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show this morning, and BBC released a statement saying “It’s been officially confirmed that Jenna Coleman, who plays Clara Oswald, will leave Doctor Who during the new series which starts tomorrow, Saturday 19 September.”

It’s not clear yet exactly when she’ll leave, but she has already shot her final scenes. She made a surprise debut on the show on 1st Sept 2012 in Asylum of the Daleks as Oswin Oswald, before joining Matt Smith’s Doctor in the Tardis as Clara in the next episode. Reports suggested Jenna had planned to leave last year, but then wanted to say so came back for the 2014 Christmas special and a portion of the new season, but is now confirmed as leaving.

So that means a new companion… humm… I wonder if Maisie Williams’s GoT schedule could fit in a few more trips to Wales…

Doctor Who returns tomorrow night (19th Sept) at 7.40pm on BBC1.
