BBC recently announced that the BBC Three sitcom Uncle will be returning for a 3rd season, despite the channels move to a purely online platform by March next year. This is some great news, not only because Uncle is a great show, and Nick Helm is extremely funny, but because writer/directors Oliver Refson and Lilah Vandenburgh are completely lovely. :)

Uncle follows out-of-work musician Andy (Nick Helm), who forges an unlikely alliance with his teenage nephew Errol (Elliot Speller-Gillott), and their often misguided comedy adventures. Last series saw Keith Allen guest star as Uncle’s uncle and Andy attempt to write the next song-contest hit, with the help of guest star Jordan Stephens from Rizzle Kicks.

We interviewed Oli and Lilah last year on Geektown Radio, where they discuss what it’s like putting the show together. Given the huge cuts that BBC Three has suffers, I’m extremely happy to see Uncle get recommissioned, although in some respect, it makes sense. As Lilah mentions in the interview, Uncle actually does better numbers via it’s iPlayer views than it’s live broadcast.

Uncle usually airs Jan/Feb, however i suspect it’ll be later in 2016 for the 3rd season. Keep an eye on the Uncle UK TV air date page for latest info.
