STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII Announces Start Of Production and Adds 3 new cast members

by Dave Elliott

Obligatory SPOILER warning if you’ve not yet see Star Wars: The Force Awakens (but seriously… What the heck have you been doing the past few months??) Don’t watch the video above if you haven’t though. So, with that out of the way, Disney today announced that the as yet un-subtitled Star Wars: Episode VIII has gone into production, with the short little video showing new director Rian Johnson (Breaking Bad, Looper) being all director-y. From the little clip it does seem that the new film may pick up right where Episode VII left off. Either that, or Rian was already in the director’s chair for the final shots of the last film. Either way, we’ll have a long a torturous wait until Dec 2017 to see the results. Thankfully there is some respite in the form of Rogue One landing this December to help tide you over.

Also announce today were 3 new people joining the Star Wars universe. Firstly Benicio Del Toro, most recently seen commiserating with Howard the Duck in Guardians of the Galaxy and in the movie Sicario. He will be joined by Jurassic Park’s Laura Dern, who will also show up in the new Twin Peaks series and an upcoming Danny Strong written biopic about J.D. Salinger, and Kelly Marie Tran probably best know for her work on Ladies Like Us and various other CollegeHumor Originals shows. There is of course, no news on who they will be playing in the new Star Wars yet, but I’m sure details will come out in due time…

Star Wars: Episode VIII lands in cinemas December 14, 2017…
