He’s been a King of England & the worlds most famous Vampire, and now Jonathan Rhys Meyers will be joining Vikings in it’s 5th season is an ‘as yet unspecified’ role.

Vikings, which premieres on Amazon Prime in the UK, then has a 2nd run on the History channel, follows the story of a legendary Viking warrior, Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), who desires to travel the oceans to explore (and or course, raid) far off lands. Currently part way through the first half of season 4, with part 2 coming later in the year. Season 5 has already been commissioned, but you’ll have to wait till next year to see what role Mr. Meyers will take in the new season. Meyer’s previously worked with Vikings writer & creator Michael Hirst on The Tudors, where he played Henry VIII.

This isn’t the only project on the cards for Jonathan Rhys Meyers with the History Channel (who are the commissioning channel for Vikings in the US). He’s also due to pop up in their remake of multi-awarding winning 70’s miniseries Roots. The remake is pulling out all the stops with an A-List cast including Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Laurence Fishburne, Matthew Goode, Mekhi Phifer, Anika Noni Rose, Tip ‘T.I.’ Harris, and James Purefoy, and follows the life of an American family, starting with their abduction into slavery.

The Roots remake is due to air of the course of a week from the 30th May in the US. No news on a UK air date yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
