‘Episodes’ to conclude with Season 5

It’s been pretty obvious this was on the cards, but we now have official confirmation that Season 5 of the brilliant Episodes will be it’s last.

Written by Friends co-creators David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik, Episodes follows Brit screen writers Sean (Stephen Mangan) & Beverly Lincoln (Tamsin Greig) as they move from the UK to LA to create a US version of their hit UK sitcom, which inevitably gets destroyed by Hollywood. This isn’t helped by the introduction of a wildly inappropriate Matt LeBlanc, playing a twisted version of himself, in the lead role.

Crane and Klarik are sole writers on the series and had said long ago they always planned for it to be a 5 season run, so the show coming to a close hasn’t come as a huge surprise. Crane and Klarik said of it ending “We have had the best time making this show. Showtime has been the opposite of every network we write about. If it were up to them we could go on making Episodes forever. But we’ve told the story we set out to tell and we’d never want to outstay our welcome.”

As most people will know, Matt is one of the new presenters on Top Gear, but also has a new comedy in pilot at CBS, and Stephen Mangan is currently on our screens in Houdini & Doyle.

Season 4 of Episodes lands on BBC 2 on 11th May 2015 at 10pm, and Season 5 will air in 2017.
