Sense8, the Netflix series from the Wachowskis’s, has had a dramatic cast change, in which British actor Aml Ameen, who played Capheus “Van Damme” on the show has been replaced by actor Toby Onwumere. The switch is alleged to be due to “creative differences” with co-creator/executive producer/director Lana Wachowski

These “differences” allegedly flared up during the table read of the show according to Deadline, but got worse once they’d moved to India for filming. This led to Ameen leaving and Onwumere being bought in to replace him.

It’s not entirely clear what these “differences” were with Lana Wachowski, a transgender woman, but when fellow cast member Jamie Clayton, also a transgender woman, was asked in a Twitter Q&A if she was sad to see him leaved, replied “NO!”… And when someone tweeted “This is horrible!!” at her about the removal of Ameen, she replied “It’s really not. Hate is horrible. Intolerance is horrible. #Sense8 IS LOVE.” Sooo… yeh…

Sense8 is a scifi series which revolves around 8 strangers from different parts of the globe, who suddenly become mentally and emotionally linked. The show has a number of LGBT characters, and has been praised for it’s positive portrayal of LGBT themes.

Whatever the reason is for Ameen’s leaving, Sense8 is currently filming it’s second season, and is expected to land late 2016/early 2017.
