James Van Der Beek Cast In Sky 1 Comedy Carters Get Rich

CSI: Cyber and Dawson’s Creek’s star James Van Der Beek has been cast in an upcoming comedy on Sky 1 from the writers of The Job Lot, Geektown has learnt.

Carters Get Rich is a new british family comedy, which follow 11 year old geek genius, Harry Carter. The boy creates an app called Honc, designed for kids like him who don’t know how to talk to girls. Honc becomes the next big thing in social networks, and is snapped up by American billionaire, Trent Zebrisky (Van Der Beek) for £10M. Struggling to deal with this new found wealth, Zebrisky sends them Oliver (John Finnemore, Miranda), a posh Etonian advisor to help then through the transition.

This isn’t Van Der Beek first step into comedic roles, having previously played a rather twisted version of himself in Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, and guested on How I Met Your Mother.

The cast is collected from a full sweep of UK comedy, and includes Rhashan Stone (Agatha Raisin) playing dad Tony, Kerry Godliman (Derek) as mum Liz, Rhianna Merralls (Camping) as impressionable sister Ellie, and newcomer Rio Chambers as Harry.

The series is being written by Claire Downes, Stuart Lane and Ian Jarvis, who brought us The Job Lot, and from Roughcut TV who produced Cuckoo.

Carters Get Rich is due to air on Sky 1 in the Autumn.
