Syfy Renews 12 Monkeys For Season 3

US Syfy network has renewed scifi show 12 Monkeys for a 3rd season it has been announced.

Based on the ’95 Terry Gilliam film, the show follows Cole (Aaron Stanford), who is sent back from 2043 by scientist Katarina Jones (Barbara Sukowa) to various points in history to stop the outbreak of a deadly virus which has wiped out 93.6% of the worlds population. He’s aided by virologist and former member of the CDC Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull), the rather unhinged genius Jennifer Goines (Emily Hampshire), and best friend José Ramse (Kirk Acevedo).

The 2nd season has seen them not only trying to stop the virus, but also stop time itself collapsing by saving ‘primaries’ – people who’s deaths would cause cataclysmic damage to the timeline – from being killed by ‘the Messengers’, lead by the mysterious ‘Witness’.

The 3rd season has a slightly reduced episode order, going from 13 to 10. The show was developed for tv by Terry Matalas & Travis Fickett with Matalas serving as showrunner. Chris McCumber, President of Entertainment Networks at NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment commented “In two short seasons, 12 Monkeys has become a cult favourite series. Terry and the cast and crew have brought to life a rich world not confined by boundaries of time, with multi-dimensional characters whose motivations for saving the world are deeply personal and intensely relatable. It’s exactly the type of smart, on-the-edge-of-your-seat entertainment we want to bring to Syfy viewers.”

12 Monkeys Season 2 is currently airing on Syfy UK, and we’d expect Season 3 to arrive around Q1 2017.
