True Blood: The Musical Is Coming…

These days it seems anything and everything can be turned into a musical. And so it comes to pass that the HBO show TRUE BLOOD is getting a musical makeover!

True Blood: The Musical is being put together by Tony Award winning theatre director Pam MacKinnon, and will star singer/actress Ellen Foley (Night Court), Broadway star Claybourne Elder (Bonnie & Clyde) and Avenue Q’s Ann Harada.

Multi-Emmy nominated composer and friend of Geektown, Nate Barr, who was behind the music for the tv show, is composed the score, and novelist Elizabeth Scott is writing the book. TV show creator Alan Ball is also said to be keeping a watchful eye on proceedings too.

Like the TV show, the musical is set in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, a town where vampires live as citizens amongst the humans, thanks to the invention of invention of synthetic ‘Tru Blood’. Vampires aren’t the only creatures out there though, with shape-shifters, fairies, werewolves and all sort of other creatures thought to be myth hiding in plain sight.

The original books from author Charlaine Harris followed Sookie Stackhouse (played by Anna Paquin in the HBO show), a waitress with telepathic abilities, who falls for the enigmatic vampire Bill Compton (played by, real life husband, Stephen Moyer on the show).

True Blood: The Musical is still in early development, but assuming everything works out, should come to Broadway sometime in the future!
