4 Cast Members Promoted To Series Regulars On The Walking Dead

This will probably come as no great surprise to comic book fans, but The Walking Dead have promoted four of the cast from season 6 to series regulars when it returns in the Autumn. They are:

  • Tom Payne who played Paul ‘Jesus’ Rovia.
  • Austin Amelio who plays Dwight, the ‘Savior’ who kidnaps Daryl.
  • Xander Berkeley who plays shady Hilltop leader Gregory.
  • And of course, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, aka Negan, the psychopathic, tyrannical leader of ‘The Saviors’ with a love of bashing in heads with his beloved barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat – ‘Lucille’.

That brings the current roster of series regulars to 20 cast members, although, this is Walking Dead… That’s not going to last! We know at least one of Rick’s group won’t make it past episode one, as we see Negan take a swing at someone’s head with Lucille in the season 6 finale. Who that person will be is being kept a closely guarded secret, however, Steven Yeun (Glenn) is currently shooting Okja, a movie for Netflix in Seoul, South Korea, which is a long way from his Walking Dead home in Atlanta, Georgia…

As has been widely commented, Glenn is the character that Negan kills in the comics, so he seems to be a likely target, however, showrunner Scott M. Gimple does like to go for the gut punch, so we’re expecting something more may happen when the show returns. What if it’s not just one character that get’s killed? This is the speculation put forward by the Nerdist, after actor Michael Cudlitz who plays Abraham on the show replied to a tweet from Josh McDermitt (Eugene) saying “I had a blast working with you…”. Note the past tense… before amending it 10 mins later to just say “Enjoy!!”…

We will find out when The Walking Dead returns In October 2016.
