SDCC Trailer For The Exorcist Lands And It’s Terrifying!

by Dave Elliott

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to horror films and tv shows, but this… This is frankly terrifying! The Exorcist tv show is inspired by both William Blatty’s original 1971 novel and the classic 1973 movie, and is not looking to pull it’s punches when it comes to scaring the bejesus out of the audience.

In an interesting move, FOX, who commissioned the show in the US, decided to drop the trailer online prior to the SDCC panel later tonight (23rd July at 2am UK time). The show stars Geena Davis (Commander in Chief, Grey’s Anatomy, Thelma and Louise) as Angela Rance, a mother who believes demons lurk in her home and threaten her family. She approaches Father Tomas (Alfonso Herrera – Sense8) to investigate, who is initially skeptical, but after a number of unexplained encounters, brings in Father Marcus (Ben Daniels – House of Cards, The Hollow Crown) to help exorcise the evil.

Film writer Jeremy Slater (The Lazarus Effect) adapted the series for tv, with Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) directing the first episode. James F. Robinson, David C. Robinson, Barbara Wall & Rolin Jones are exec producing along with Slater, and it’s produced by Morgan Creek Productions and 20th Century Fox Television.

There’s no news on a UK broadcaster yet, but I find it extremely likely this will get picked up somewhere. Keep an eye on The Exorcist UK tv air date page for the latest information.
