US streaming service Crackle have commissioned a TV Remake of Guy Ritchie’s Snatch it has been announced.

This new take on the cult 2000 movie will star Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint, Dougray Scott (MI:2, Fear the Walking Dead, Desperate Housewives), and Ed Westwick (Gossip Girl, Wicked City).

This won’t be a direct remake of the Jason Statham/Brad Pitt movie, but is designed to carry the ‘spirit’ of the film to a new environment, with a new cast of characters. The show is based on a real-life heist in London, and features a group of twenty-something hustlers, who stumble across a lorry load of gold bullion. This casts them into the dark and seedy world of London organised crime, rogue cops, gangsters, and of course, gypsy fighters…

Grint is set to play Charlie Cavendish, a posh but frustratingly chaotic con-man, whilst Scott plays Vic Hill, a prisoner who’s refusing to give up the conning life, despite being banged up inside. Westwick has a recurring guest role as shady night club owner Sonny Castillo.

Snatch will begin shooting in Manchester soon, and has landed a 10 episode order. It’s being directed by Nick Renton (The Musketeers, Silent Witness), with Alex De Rakoff (The Calcium Kid, Dead Man Running) as creator and head writer.

This is not the first time one of Guy Ritchie’s films has been converted into tv show. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels had a brief tv version which ran for 7 episodes in 2000 on Channel 4.

Snatch the tv series, will stream on Crackle in the US in 2017. We’ll keep you posted on any UK pick up.
