If you’re having a feeling of deja vu, yes, we did announce last month that The Last Ship had been renewed for a 4th season. Well now it’s been renewed for a 5th season too!

It seems US network TNT have decided that rather than have a 13 episode 4th season, they will now have 2 more seasons, both 10 episodes long, which will be shot back-to-back to save money.

“The Last Ship has taken viewers on an exciting ride through three truly thrilling seasons,” comments EVP of original programming for TNT, Sarah Aubrey. “We look forward to watching the cast and production team ratchet up the drama, action and suspense even more over the next two seasons through summer 2018.”

TNT has gone through some management changes recently, which has seen it shift towards ‘darker, edgier’ drama. The Last Ship has been a solid ratings performer for the network though, pulling an average of 7.1 million viewers for it’s 3rd season.

The series, which stars Eric Dane, Adam Baldwin, Bridget Regan & Charles Parnell, sees the civilisation start to collapse after a viral outbreak decimates the world. It’s down to the crew of the USS Nathan James to find and deliver the cure, along with maintaining peace amongst the nations.

The Last Ship Season 3 is currently airing on Sky 1 on Sundays at 8pm.
