Fox Orders More Lucifer!

US network Fox has picked up the ‘back 9’ episodes of Lucifer it was announced today, bringing the total order for Season 2 up to 22 episodes.

Originally the order for Lucifer season 2 had been for 13 episodes (same as season 1), but that has now been expanded to a full season. “Lucifer continues to deliver, with great blasts of dark humor and ambitious storytelling,” commented David Madden, Entertainment President at Fox. “The show has turned out to be a true wicked pleasure… and we couldn’t be more pleased to order these nine additional episodes.”

Based on the DC/Vertigo comic book it sees king of Hell Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) leave his day job guarding the underworld for life running a nightclub in LA. Here he gets involved with Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German), helping the LAPD solve crimes and punish the wicked.

Season 2 has seen the arrival of Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer as Lucifer’s mother, a celestial being who was trapped in Hell for thousands of years by God (her ex-husband). Free on Earth, but without a body, she ends up inhabiting the corpse of a recently murdered wife and mother. To try and appease his father’s demands to send his ex back to hell, but also his mother’s desire to be near her children, Lucifer decides to ‘punish’ her, by keeping her trapped in her squishy human form, where she has to deal with her human job, husband, and bratty children.

Lucifer streams every Tuesday on Amazon Prime in the UK.
