The new season of Homeland is not far away, and it’s looking like it’s going to be as good as ever. Season 6 picks up several months after Carrie (Claire Danes) thwarted a terrorist attack in Berlin, and she’s back on U.S. soil. She’s set herself up in Brooklyn NYC, and is working for a foundation whose are providing aid to Muslims living in the America.
Homeland has always been a timely series, and Season 6 is no exception. This sees the story tackle after effects of the U.S. presidential election, with the entire season taking place between election day and the inauguration. It’s a strange, transitional time in the halls of government filled with anxiety and different competing interests, where a very fragile and complex transfer of power takes place between the outgoing president and the incoming president-elect (played by House of Cards’ Elizabeth Marvel). Mandy Patinkin is set to return as Saul Berenson, as is F. Murray Abraham as Dar Adal. Rupert Friend is also back as Peter Quinn despite the events of last season, albeit a “a very changed and altered Quinn”, according to showrunner Alex Gansa.
Although the show usually airs in October, this season has been moved to January in the U.S. I suspect in part, due to the problems they might have broadcasting a show with this subject matter just as the election is taking place. Channel 4 haven’t officially announced an air date yet, but it’s always run close to the U.S. air date, so we’re expecting it back in January in the UK too. Keep an eye on the Homeland UK air date page for the latest information.
