Time travel dramas are like buses apparently. None of ages then 20 of them turn up at once! This latest one is called Travelers, and is a co-production between Canadian Network Showcase and Netflix. It will air on Netflix UK, 23rd December 2016.

Starring Eric McCormack (Will & Grace, Perception) as FBI Special Agent Grant MacLaren, the story actually starts hundreds of years in the future. It seems the last surviving humans have discovered the means of sending consciousness back through time, directly into people in the 21st century. These “travelers” assume the lives of seemingly random people, while secretly working as teams to perform missions in order to save humanity from a terrible future.

MacLaren (McCormack) leads the team, which also includes Marcy (Mackenzie Porter – Hell on Wheels), a young, intellectually disabled woman in the care of her social worker; David (Patrick Gilmore – Gracepoint, Cabin in the Woods); Trevor (Jared Abrahamson – Awkward), a high school quarterback; Carly (Nesta Cooper – The 100, Heroes Reborn), a single mom in an abusive relationship; and Philip (Reilly Dolman – Stargate Universe, Rush), a heroin-addicted college student.

Armed only with their knowledge of history and an archive of social media profiles, the travelers discover that 21st century lives and relationships are as much a challenge as their high-stakes missions.

Showcase are airing the drama in Canada, with Netflix handling worldwide distribution. Interestingly, this is the second show we’ve seen Netflix drop onto the streaming service right before Christmas. Something completely the opposite to traditional linear broadcasters, who usually clear their schedules of new releases over the holiday period. It makes sense though. People have time off and are looking for shows to binge watch their way through, and Netflix is a brilliant service to do that.

Travelers lands on Netflix UK, 23rd December 2016.
