BBC Sets Premiere Date For ‘Taboo’ Starring Tom Hardy From Steven Knight & Ridley Scott

by Dave Elliott

The BBC have set an air date of 7th January 2017 on BBC 1 for TABOO, a brand new eight-part drama starring Tom Hardy, from Peaky Blinders Steven Knight and legendary director Ridley Scott. This will be one to definitely watch!

Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney (Hardy), a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father’s shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father’s legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.

If the inclusion of Hardy, Knight and Scott haven’t convinced you yet, just look at the insane quality of the rest of the cast also appearing… Michael Kelly (House of Cards), Jonathan Pryce (Game Of Thrones), Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones), Franka Potente (The Bridge), Stephen Graham (This Is England, Boardwalk Empire), Tom Hollander (The Night Manager), David Hayman (Top Boy, London Spy), Jessie Buckley (War & Peace), Jefferson Hall (Vikings), Ed Hogg (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, Indian Summers), Leo Bill (Mr. Turner, The White Queen), Christopher Fairbank (Dickensian, Guardians of the Galaxy), Richard Dixon (Victoria, The Danish Girl), Jason Watkins (Trollied, W1A, The Hollow Crown), Nicholas Woodeson (The Living and the Dead, Skyfall) and Lucian Msamati (Game of Thrones, Luther). It’s like someone sat down and wrote out a list of the top tv shows and movies of the last few years, and then went after all the actors.

Steven Knight developed the show along with Tom, and his father Chips Hardy, who’s serving as a consulting producer. Tom Hardy, Scott and Knight are exec producing. Ridley Scott’s Scott Free London and Tom Hardy’s Hardy Son & Baker are producing the show for FX in the US and BBC One in the UK.

Taboo will air on BBC 1 on the 7th January 2017, and on FX in the US on the 10th January 2017.
