Greg Grunberg Lands Recurring Role On The Flash

If you ever wondered what’s the easiest way to land a job in the Berlantiverse, one route in seems to be befriending the director Kevin Smith. The cult movie director and podcaster has been directing episodes of The Flash & Supergirl this season, and has a habit of offering up his friends and family for parts. And why not… If you have the leverage, it seems silly not to use it!

This approach landed a small role for hetro-life-partner Jay Mewes in The Flash last season, and his actress daughter Harley Quinn Smith in Supergirl this season. Now Greg Grunberg, Smith’s co-host from AMC’s Geeking Out has landed a recurring role on The Flash.

Grunberg will play “a gruff, stalwart figure at Central City Police Department, Det. Patterson is unwavering in his commitment to protecting Central City from the dangerous metas that threaten it.” He will make his first appearance in episode 2.07 called “Killer Frost”, directed by Smith. This will be the last episode before the massive “Invasion!” crossover event, which sees all 4 Berlantiverse shows come together for the first time.

Grunberg is of course no stranger to sci-fi shows and humans with extraordinary powers, having played Matt Parkman in Heroes, and having appeared in both Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Trek Beyond. Those latter two parts may have something to do with the fact he was a childhood friend of JJ Abrams… As they say, you can be the greatest actor in the world, but it also helps to have friends in the right places!

The Flash Season 3 is currently airing, Tuesday nights on Sky 1.
