Parker Posey To Be ‘Lost In Space’ As Dr. Smith On Netflix

US actress Parker Posey is joining the cast of Neflix’s Lost In Space reboot it has been announced.

In an interesting switch, Posey will take on the role of Dr. Smith, played by Jonathan Harris in the original series, the scientist and enemy agent who is responsible for the sabotage which causes the group craft to be Lost In Space in the first place.

For those of you unfamiliar with the story, the show sees a family set of from Earth with the intention of colonising a distant planet. But disaster strikes, stranding them light years from their intended destination, and the Robinsons find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and their own personal demons.

Posey has appeared in a huge number of tv shows and films, including Superman ReturnsLouie, The Good Wife, The Big C and most recently Christopher Guest’s Neflix series Mascots. On Lost In Space, she will join Toby Stephens (Black Sails) who is playing John Robinson, Molly Parker (House of Cards) who is playing Maureen Robinson, Maxwell Jenkins (Sense8), who will play the youngest child Will Robinson, and Taylor Russell (Falling Skies) who will play eldest child Judy. The only other characters left to cast (assuming they keep the same line up as the original series) are middle child Penny Robinson, military pilot Major Don West, and the voice of the ‘Danger Will Robinson’ Robot.

The reboot is being written by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, Power Rangers 2017), who will also exec produce along with Zack Estrin (No Ordinary Family, Prison Break, Charmed), who will serves as showrunner.

Lost In Space is due to take off on Netflix in 2018.
