CW’s ‘Reign’ Comes To An End

After 4 seasons, the CW drama Reign has been cancelled by the network.

Airing on Netflix in the UK, the show is a… “historical” drama… about the early life of Mary, Queen of Scots, starring Adelaide Kane (Neighbours, Teen Wolf) in the title role. The cancellation had apparently been on the cards for a while, so the writers had been steering the story towards a possible conclusion already. The news was given to the producers just as the season 4 finale goes into production, so hopefully that should mean the show gets an ending that will satisfy fans.

After CW renewed almost all it’s shows last season (with the exception of Containment), it seemed likely something had to give this year to make room for new content. They are looking at dramas to fill the hole left by The Vampire Diaries, which ends this year, and have a number of things in development, such as a series based on cult classic movie The Lost Boys. There is also the hotly anticipated Riverdale which arrives  January 26th 2017 in the US. The adaptation of Archie Comics comes from DC show supremo Greg Berlanti, and currently doesn’t have a UK pick up. But given the hype around it, we are expecting it to land somewhere this side of the pond.

Reign is due to return for it’s 16 episode final season February 10th on the CW in the US, and soon after on Netflix in the UK.
