As I think we all know, Dara O’Briain has a large spy network gathering intel on TV bosses across all networks, to use as blackmail material, hence the reason he presents every show on BBC2 (This is a joke. I’m sure Dara doesn’t have blackmail material on tv bosses, and is a lovely man… Despite looking like Gru from Despicable Me.) Now his nefarious tactics have landed him a 2 season renewal of Dara O’Briain’s Go 8 Bit. Not only that, they’ve expanded the episode count for both seasons from 6 to 10 episodes.
For those of you that didn’t catch the first season, Go 8 Bit sees O’Briain pitch 2 teams against each other, in challenges on a mix of classic video games such as PacMan, Asteroids, Resident Evil and Tekken, and newer games like Little Big Planet and Star Wars Battlefront. The teams are captained by gaming geek Steve McNeil, and comedian/actor (and ‘gaming muggle’) Sam Pamphilon, each with a celebrity partner.
According to UKTV senior commissioning editor Iain Coyle commented “I’m so made up we’re making more of these. It’s been a real breakout hit for us and I’m so delighted it’s been embraced by the gaming community and Dave viewers alike.” But we suspect he was forced to make that statement under duress to cover O’Briain’s tracks.
Dara O’Briain’s Go 8 Bit will return in 2017.
