Geektown Awards – Most Anticipated TV Series, Game & Movie Of 2017

And so we come to our final 3 categories. Most Anticipated TV Series, Game & Movie Of 2017. The next 12 months see a bumper crop of new and interesting media coming in all areas. From all out drama & sci-fi, to long awaited sequels. 2017 looks to be an extremely good year for entertainment across the board. Here are the nominees and winners for the things you’re most looking forward to in the upcoming months.

Most Anticipated TV Series Of 2017

Nominees: 24: Legacy, Altered Carbon, Iron Fist, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Macgyver, Prison Break, Punisher, Riverdale, Star Trek: Discovery, The Blacklist: Redemption, The Defenders

Bronze: Star Trek: Discovery

Silver: Prison Break

And The Winner Is…

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events

It faced tough competition, with only 2% separating the top 3 spots, but once again, it’s a win for Netflix, with their brand new take on Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. The show tells the tale of orphans Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, and their evil guardian Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) will stop at nothing to get his hands on their inheritance. The siblings must outsmart Olaf at every turn, foiling his many devious plans and disguises, in order to discover clues to their parents’ mysterious death.

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events will stream on to Netflix from 13th January 2017.

Most Anticipated Game Of 2017

Nominees: Detroit: Become Human, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Red Dead Redemption 2, Resident Evil 7, Scalebound, Sea of Thieves, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Bronze: Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Silver: Resident Evil 7

And The Winner Is…

Red Dead Redemption 2

From the moment Red Dead Redemption 2 was announced back in October 2016, I had a sneaking suspicion we’d be seeing it top the list this year. When Rockstar released some teaser images a few days before the official announcement, that along pushed up the company’s stock price by 6%! A sequel to 2010’s hugely popular Red Dead Redemption, it see’s Rockstar do what they do best. Massive, detailed, open world gaming. On a basic level, it could be described as “GTA with horses”, but that would be doing it a disservice. We don’t really know any details on plot at this point, but given the game’s lineage, expect it to be one of the gaming experiences of the year.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is currently set to be released towards the end of 2017.

Most Anticipated Movie Of 2017 (that isn’t Star Wars…)

Nominees: Beauty and the Beast, Blade Runner 2049, Ghost in the Shell, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Justice League, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Logan, Spider-Man: Homecoming, T2: Trainspotting, Thor: Ragnarok, War for the Planet of the Apes, Wonder Woman

Bronze: T2: Trainspotting

Silver: Beauty and the Beast

And The Winner Is…

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Despite some incredible movies coming out in the next 12 months, from the second the trailer was release, there was only one film which could have clinched this spot. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. How can you not love Baby Groot! Would you want to disappoint that lil’ face? The first film turned out to be a surprise smash hit from the Marvel canon, which took a minor comic book, and made it into the most fun and entertaining blockbuster of 2014. Now the team are back, as they fight to keep their newfound family together, and unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage.

Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket & Groot all return when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits UK cinemas on the 28th April 2017.
