Sky 1 yesterday released a new teaser trailer for it’s upcoming period drama Jamestown from Downton Abbey producers, Carnival Films.

Set in 1619, Jamestown follows the settlers as they establish a community in the New World. Amongst those landing on shore are a group of women destined to be married to the men of Jamestown, including three spirited women from England: Jocelyn (Naomi Battrick – Crossing Lines, Waterloo Road), Alice (Sophie Rundle – Peaky Blinders, Brief Encounters) and Verity (Niamh Walsh – Holby City). Leaving their old lives behind, these women have embarked on this journey to start afresh, fulfil their dreams and become the female pioneers of an exciting new western outpost.

Battling against inhospitable wilderness, suspicious indigenous people and a host of brutal challenges with ambition, power and entrepreneurial spirit on their side, these pioneers will define a new way of life. Leading the cast of settlers are Max Beesley (Suits, Mad Dogs, Hotel Babylon), Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock…, Primeval, The Missing), Dean Lennox-Kelly (Shameless, Collision), Shaun Dooley (Broadchurch, DCI Banks), Stuart Martin (Medici: Masters of Florence, Crossing Lines), Steven Waddington (The Syndicate, Waterloo Road), Matt Stokoe (The Musketeers, The Village, Misfits) and Burn Gorman (Torchwood, TURN, The Hour).

The show is written by The Paradise & Lark Rise to Candleford scribe Bill Gallagher, who according to Sky’s Head of Drama, Anne Mensah, has “managed to combine an amazing tale of bravery and adventure with unforgettable characterisation and compelling emotion that mark out Jamestown as completely unique.”

Jamestown is one of a number of new commissions by Sky this year, as it ramps up it’s original drama content. Others still to come include Guerrilla starring Idris Elba, Riviera featuring Julia Stiles, Adrian Lester & Iwan Rheon, and their other big historical drama, Britannia.

We still don’t have an air date for Jamestown yet, but keep an eye on the Jamestown UK Air Date page for the latest information.
