Geoff Johns, DC’s Chief Creative Officer and comic book writing legend posted an interesting tweet a few days ago, about things he’s looking forward to for DC in 2017. At number 5 on his list was this:
5) More #DCTV @CW_TheFlash @CW_Arrow @Gotham @TheCW_Legends @LuciferonFOX @TheCWSupergirl and many more! One which will be announced soon…

Interesting… We know there are a number of DC shows besides the one’s he mentions that are coming, or in development.
We know we are getting Powerless for NBC (premieres 2nd February 2017 in the US), which is a comedy starring Vanessa Hudgens & Alan Tudyk about Wayne Security, a subsidiary of Wayne Enterprises, who develop products to help us normal, non-powered folk, feel a little bit safer in a supervillain (and superhero) filled world.
There is a pilot order for Krypton on Syfy (US) from David S. Goyer and Damian Kindler, about the life of Superman’s grandfather as a young man on the doomed planet. Also Black Lightning for Fox (US) from Flash/Arrow’s Greg Berlanti, about a retired vigilante who is pulled back into the fray when his daughter gets into trouble. And Scalped also has a pilot order, which Johns himself is developing with Star Trek Beyond co-writer Doug Jung. This is a modern-day crime story set on a Native American Indian reservation, based on the comic book by Jason Aaron.
Currently in development there are shows based the DC/Vertigo titles DMZ from Mad Men’s Andre and Maria Jacquemetton; An adaptation of Frank Miller’s Ronin; Supernatural & Timeless creator Eric Kripke is writing a comic book called Amped for DC/Vertigo, which is also in development as a TV series for USA Network; NBC are developing a Red tv series, and FX are developing a show based on the Y: The Last Man comic book.
However, from Geoff Johns tweet, it implies this is something new, and given the shows he listed, possibly something more mainstream than those less well known DC/Vertigo titles. Could it be that CW is looking to go 5 nights a week with their Superheroes? Personally, I would love to see some of the actual Bat family get mixed into the main DC-Berlantiverse. Birds Of Prey would be a popular choice I’m sure, but personally I’d love to see a Grayson series come to CW. We will have to wait and see what 2017 brings!
