Flash/Supergirl Cast Glee’s Darren Criss as Music Meister For Musical Episode

There’s a mini Glee reunion coming up in the long awaited Flash/Supergirl musical crossoverDarren Criss, who played Blaine, the lead vocalist of the Dalton Academy Warblers, has been cast as Music Meister in the upcoming Flash/Supergirl episodes!

Before getting into the superhero business, both Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist starred in Glee. Grant played recurring character Sebastian Smythe, one of the Warblers cappella group, and Melissa played Marley Rose in the 4th and 5th seasons.

“With our Flash and our Supergirl being Glee alums, how could we not have them go up against another Glee favorite like Darren Criss?” commented exec producer Andrew Kreisberg in a recent interview about the casting. “We have been blown away by his talent over the years and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the Music Meister.”

The idea for the musical crossover of Flash & Supergirl came about when they realised how much musical talent they had on the DC shows. It may seem an odd idea, but as Kreisberg pointed out “It’s funny, we have villains that can split the earth in half. We have villains that can run at the speed of light… What’s so crazy about a villain that can make you think your friends are singing and dancing in front of you? In fact, if anything, it might seem pedestrian, by comparison.” He has a point… And it’s not like it hasn’t been done before. Scrubs, That ’70s Show, Ally McBeal, How I Met Your Mother, even Oz and Grey’s Anatomy have all had musical episodes. And of course, who could forget the classic Buffy episode ‘Once More, With Feeling’.

Joining Grant, Melissa and Darren in song will be Flash cast members Jesse L. Martin (Joe West), who we’ve already seen singing on the show, and Carlos Valde (Cisco). And from Supergirl Jeremy Jordan (Winn). From the other DC shows, Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein), and let’s face it, you would have had to lock John Barrowman in a crate and dropped it in the middle of the atlantic to stop him appearing, so Malcolm Merlyn will also be there! David Harewood (Hank Henshaw) and Chris Wood (Mon-El) will also be appearing, but are apparently not under Music Meister’s spell, as they won’t be singing…

The crossover will start at the end of Supergirl, with the majority of the singing in the Flash episode, titled ‘Duet‘, which should air in the UK on 28th March 2017.
