Eric McCormack’s Travelers Renewed For Season 2 On Netflix
Travelers, the brilliant sci-fi drama from Stargate’s Brad Wright has been renewed for a 2nd season it was announced yesterday. The show is a co-production between Netflix and Canada’s Showcase network, with Netflix airing it globally outside of it’s native Canada.
Set in the present day, the show takes the idea that, hundreds of years from now, the last surviving humans discover the means of sending consciousness back through time, directly into people in the 21st century. These “travelers” assume the lives of seemingly random people, taking over their lives just at the point they were destined to die. Together they secretly work as teams to perform missions in order to save humanity from a terrible future.
Eric McCormack leads his team as Traveler 3468 who inhabits the body of FBI Special Agent Grant MacLaren. The rest of his group includes Traveler 3569 (Mackenzie Porter), who ends up inhabiting Marcy – a young, intellectually disabled woman in the care of her social worker, David (Patrick Gilmore). Traveler 0115 (Jared Paul Abrahamson) inhabits Trevor, who was a jerky, high school quarterback. Traveler 3465 (Nesta Marlee Cooper) takes over Carly, a single mom in an abusive relationship. And finally Traveler 3326 (Reilly Dolman) ends up in the body of Philip, who is, unfortunately, a heroin-addicted college student. Armed only with their knowledge of history and an archive of social media profiles, the travelers discover that 21st century lives and relationships are as much a challenge as their high-stakes missions.
“I’m as proud of Travelers as any show I’ve ever been part of, and I’m blown away by this extraordinary young cast as any group of actors I’ve ever worked with,” commented McCormack. “That the entire team is Canadian is icing on the cake, which makes my friend, Brad Wright, the cherry on top.”
As we announced back in January, McCormack is already set to reprise his role in Will & Grace, which is returning after 10 years off our screen, but his schedule has been worked out to allow filming of both shows.
Season 1 of Travelers is currently on Netflix UK, and if you’re a fan of sci-fi drama, I urge you to go and watch, as it is a brilliantly original, thrilling, and well executed series. No news on when Travelers Season 2 will air yet, but we will keep you updated.
