Brit actor, Harry Potter star, and generally all round lovely chap, Jason Isaacs as landed the captain’s chair on the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery it has been announced!
The name of Isaacs’ new character is Captain Lorca and he’ll be in charge of the U.S.S. Discovery when it leaves space dock at some point in late Summer/early Autumn. Unlike previous shows, Star Trek: Discovery’s main character isn’t actually the captain, but a ‘lieutenant commander with caveats’ played by The Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin-Green. However, regardless of the size of the role, I’m sure when presented with the idea of joining Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway and Archer, he jumped at the chance. Isaacs did follow up the announcement with this tweet:
Nice chair. Hope it’s comfy. pic.twitter.com/xwfdWAmBQW

This isn’t Jason Isaacs first trip into space, having played D.J. in space horror Event Horizon, and voiced The Inquisitor in Star Wars Rebels. He is of course, best known as Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, but has appeared on a number of tv shows over the years including Awake, Brotherhood, The West Wing, and can currently be seen in Netflix’s The OA.
Things haven’t been easy getting the U.S.S. Discovery flying, with delays and changing showrunners. However, things seem to have settled, and are now moving ahead nicely, so we look forward to seeing Star Trek: Discovery when it lands on Netflix in late Summer/early Autumn 2017.
