The Night Manager Series 2 Script In Development

Last year’s most talked about drama could be getting a 2nd series it seems, as director Susanne Bier commented that a script for season 2 of The Night Manager was in development.

“We all very much want to do a season two,” said Bier. “But the thing we absolutely do not want to do, is something that does not live up to the level of season one. That would be a really bad idea.”

It’s not exactly clear what form this would take though, as it would that the story beyond the original John le Carré source novel, which was used for the original series. It also doesn’t look like season 1 writer David Farr is involved, as the season 2 script is said to be being written by a “team of writers”. Farr had previously stated that “Given the characters, there is a potential for something more to happen, and I’m sure someone could find the right idea. But for me it’s done.”

Season 1 of The Night Manager saw Tom Hiddleston play ex-forces-turn-hotel-manager Jonathan Pine, who is recruited by Angela Burr (Olivia Colman) to infiltrate a the inner circle of arms dealer Richard Onslow Roper (Hugh Laurie).

It’s not entirely clear who out of the cast would be returning if the 2nd series does make it to screen, but given the popularity of Hiddleston and Colman, you would expect the BBC and their US partners AMC would be keen for them both to come back.

We should also say, this is by no means a ‘done deal’. Production company The Ink Factory released a statement saying  “The Ink Factory, BBC and AMC are in the early stages of developing a potential second series of The Night Manager, but nothing is definite yet and we have nothing to announce.” We’ll update you if we get any more concrete information.
