Nashville Renewed For 16 Episode Season 6

Nashville will be back for a 6th season of 16 episodes it’s new US network CMT have announced. This is the first time CMT have renewed the show since it took it over from ABC last year.

16 episodes is a smaller order than season 5’s, however it’s much more inline with the standard season order for a US cable network (which CMT is), so I don’t think it’s any reason for fans to be worried. It’s not so much cutting the episode order, and normalising it to be in line with their other programming.

The show has being doing well for the network, with CMT president Kevin Kay commenting recently “I believe Nashville has a lot of life in it. I think it’s a great show, I’ve been a fan of it forever.”

Set against the backdrop of the city’s music scene, Nashville follows Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) and Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere), two women who face personal and professional challenges as they navigate their paths as music artists and individuals.

The show is currently on a mid-season break in the US, and have only just announced it will return in June. That possibly explains the delay in Season 5 landing in the UK. Sky may not have wanted air the show with the midseason gap, but without knowing the return date, it would have been hard to schedule in.

Hopefully we will have news on a UK premiere date for Nashville Season 5 soon!
