Disney Considering Epic Live Action Role Play Hotel For Star Wars Land Resort!

Those of you who are Star Wars fans (and given you’re on our site, I’m assuming that’s most of you!), and are planning a trip to Disneyland California or Disneyworld Orlando, you might want to hold off until 2019, because something truly epic is in the works…

Last year, Disney announced they were building ‘Star Wars Land’ in both their US locations but according to Walt Disney World News Today, a new survey being conducted for the media giant is hinting at an amazing new idea for a place to stay at the Orlando resort…

Based inside Orlando’s ‘Star Wars Land’ will be a starship themed hotel that will run a full, 2 day ‘story-driven entertainment experience’, where you can take on flight training, ship exploration, lightsaber training, and personalized secret missions, both on the starship and throughout the Star Wars themed planet itself!

I experienced just a snippet of this sort of thing, when Secret Cinema recreated Tatooine and the Death Star in a warehouse in London a few year ago. Their Empire Strikes Back event was brilliantly done, albeit on a budget. However, the idea of what is effectively a 2 day Live Action Role Play event, with the money and weight of Disney/Lucasfilm themselves behind it, inside the park itself, is just mindblowing…

According to the reports, the plan is you would stay in an an all-inclusive luxury ‘starship’, complete with meals, entertainment & dinner shows, a pool area & water garden, ?tness area, on-board cantina, and even robotic droid butlers! You would have personal interactions with Star Wars characters, live performers throughout the starship (experience the story or simply observe the action according to personal preference), and exclusive park admission to ‘Star Wars Land’.

The ‘Star Wars Land’ park itself is being designed as a brand new destination, rather than basing it directly on one of the planets we know from the movies, which gives them a chance to play, without being restricted by movie canon. “This used to be a vibrant trading port back in the old sub-lightspeed days,” commented Supervising Imagineer, Scott Trowbridge. “But now with advent of hyperspace, its prominence has kind of fallen and faded a little bit which has made it a great spot for those who didn’t want to be on that kind of mainstream path. The smugglers, the bounty hunters, the rogue adventurers looking to crew up, the people who don’t want to be found – basically all the interesting people.” The panel at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, which you can see below, goes on to explain that it’s not just a bunch of Star Wars themed shops and rides. Much like the hotel experience they are pitching, it’s being designed as a living, breathing, Star Wars location, which will totally immerse you in a galaxy far far away…

They are pitching the hotel based ‘story-driven entertainment experience’ as costing around $1000, which does not sound unreasonable to me, for the chance to be immersed in your own Star Wars story for 2 days! I’m off to look up flights to Orlando in 2019…
