Trailer For Syfy’s Krypton Looks Far More Battlestar Than Supergirl

by Dave Elliott

Late last night, a trailer for Syfy’s upcoming Superman prequel Krypton surfaced online, and it’s most definitely looking more Battlestar Galactica than the CW’s DC/Berlantiverse shows.

The show, which is due to debut later in the year in the US, tells the story of Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe – The Halcyon), who is narrating the trailer as a message to his grandson Kal-El, aka Superman. Set two generations before Krypton get’s all explodey, the House Of El has been shunned and disgraced by Krypton society, but Seg is fighting to restore the family’s name and honour, and stop his world from descending in to chaos.

Seg is a technical genius, but is forced to live as one of Krypton’s lowest caste when his family is stripped of its rank and title. He is in a forbidden relationship with Lyta Zod (Georgina Campbell – Tripped, After Hours, Murdered by My Boyfriend), a cadet in the Kryptonian military caste, but the lovers would both be in major trouble if their affair came to light.

The trailer is interesting, as it appears to follow the darker feel of the recent DC films more than the current batch of DC tv shows. That probably has something to do with David S. Goyer, the man behind Krypton, who was also the writer of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, along with shows such as Constantine, and Da Vinci’s Demons.

Obviously there is no UK Air Date for Krypton, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
