The first full trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s BLADE RUNNER 2049 has arrived! It’s the hotly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s classic Blade Runner, and is as dark and moody as you’d expect!
Set 30 years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.
Joining Ford and Gosling in the film are Jared Leto (Suicide Squad) who is featured quite heavily in the trailer, Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Robin Wright (House of Cards), Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica, Dexter), and Lennie James (The Walking Dead).
In a recent interview, Villeneuve talked about his trepidation at taking over such a big franchise. “It’s the first time that I had to take the universe of someone else and to make it my own,” he commented. “It’s very challenging, the biggest artistic challenge I’ve had in my life probably. I hesitated a lot before doing it, but when I said yes I committed at one hundred percent.”
The story has been written by Hampton Fancher, who also did the original film’s adaptation from the 1968 Philip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. That was then taken by Michael Green (American Gods, Logan), who turned Fancher’s story into the screenplay.
BLADE RUNNER 2049 lands in UK Cinemas on the 6th October 2017.
