Syfy UK have picked up the tv adaptation of Midnight, Texas, based on the latest book trilogy from True Blood author Charlaine Harris it has been announced.
Adapted by Monica Owusu-Breen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Revolution, Fringe), Midnight, Texas is set in a small Texas town, where no one is quite what they seem… Your neighbours could be a vampires, witches, a werewolf and even an angel. The town must band together like a somewhat dysfunctional family to fend of outsiders, such as biker gangs and over-zealous police.
The show stars François Arnaud (The Borgias) as Manfred, a charming, powerful psychic who can communicate with spirits and finds safety in Midnight, surrounding himself with both human and supernatural allies.
Midnight is home to a cast of varied characters, including Bobo (Dylan Bruce, Orphan Black), proprietor of Midnight’s local pawn shop; Fiji (Parisa Fitz-Henley, Luke Cage), a witch who owns the local wiccan shop; Olivia (Arielle Kebbel, Ballers), a mysterious assassin with a weapon for every occasion; Joe (Jason Lewis, Sex and the City), an angel who knows all of Midnight’s secrets, having been around for millennia; Lemuel (Peter Mensah, True Blood), a wise vampire with a long history in Midnight; Creek (Sarah Ramos, Parenthood), an aspiring writer with big dreams who learns her family is harboring a deep secret; and Rev. Emilio Sheehan (Yul Vazquez, Captain Phillips), who can’t resist the pull of a full moon.
“As the ultimate science fiction fan, Syfy puts great storytelling at the heart of what we do,” commented Chrystele Fremaux, vice president of programming, UK & emerging markets, NBC Universal International Networks. “Supernatural drama Midnight, Texas, with its community of vampires, witches, werewolves, psychics and other-worldly characters, is a perfect choice for Syfy viewers.”
The show is produced by Universal Television and David Janollari Entertainment, with Breen exec producing the show, along with David Janollari (Six Feet Under).
Syfy UK is set to air Midnight, Texas 10 episode first season in July, just after it’s US broadcast.
