No New ’24: Legacy’ or ‘Prison Break’ “Right Now…” Scream Queens & Shots Fired Cancelled

News on a few of the Fox shows has emerged this afternoon. 2 definite cancellations, and 2 maybes!

First up, Ryan Murphy’s ‘Scream Queens‘ won’t be returning, as was largely expected. Fox Television Group CEO Gary Newman commented “Scream Queens was an anthological series. Ryan told the story of the group of characters he created over the course of the two seasons. It feels as if it was a complete story. We have no plans at this point to go back there and tell more stories.” Which is very nice of him to say, but even if Murphy wanted to do a 3rd season, its ratings had been in the toilet for a long while, so I doubt we would have seen it again either way!

It also looking like event series ‘Shots Fired‘, about two racially charged shootings in a small Southern town, will stay as a one-off, and not continue. Things are a little more vague with Fox’s two more high profile event series…

Firstly ‘Prison Break‘. Whilst the network are saying there are “no plans rights now” to bring it back, they aren’t ruling out picking it up again in the future. In a conversation with the press earlier today Fox Television Group CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman said “We loved this season… We would definitely consider doing more episodes,” but they are thinking more along the lines of dropping the show in every few seasons, as and when the writers & producers come up with a solid idea for a new story. “We want to make it special,” added Walden.

Over with ‘24: Legacy‘, the stumbling block is more to do with lead actor Corey Hawkins, who is currently on stage in a Broadway production of ‘Six Degrees Of Separation’, putting it out of consideration this season. He’s also got a storyline to resolve one way or another after vanishing in the middle of ‘The Walking Dead’ last season. Walden commented “We were so happy with the creative on that show. We think Corey Hawkins did a great job… replacing Jack Bauer was no easy feat!” They have also said Fox are planning on sitting down with 24 exec producer Howard Gordon to talk about where the show might go next. So whilst 24 might not be coming back next year, the noises coming from Fox do sound like there is a good chance we will see more of it in the future.

Prison Break‘, ‘24: Legacy‘ and ‘Shots Fired‘ all air on Fox in the UK. ‘Scream Queens‘ aired on E4.
