‘Uncharted’ Movie To Star Tom Holland As Young Nathan Drake

Isn’t it always the way… You wait for ages to star in a massive movie franchise, then TWO come along at once! Sony today announced that new Spider-man Tom Holland will also be portraying Nathan Drake in their upcoming ‘Uncharted’ movie!

If you’re thinking “isn’t he a bit young?”, there is a reason for that… The film, which is based on Naughty Dog’s hugely popular video game series, is taking it’s cues from a specific part of 2011’s ‘Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception’. During a section of the game, the player takes control of a younger version of the hero Nathan Drake, as the 14yr old searches a museum in Cartagena, Colombia, looking for the ring belonging to his ancestor, Sir Francis Drake. It’s whilst trying to pilfer the trinket, he first meets the man who becomes his mentor, and partner in crime, Victor “Sully” Sullivan. This is apparently the inspiration for the movie.

The film has been in development for nearly 10 years, with various actors and directors being attached or in talks, but dropping out. Joe Carnahan, David Guggenheim, Eric Warren Singer and David O. Russell have all taken passes at the script at various points, but this latest version will bring on a new writer to work alongside director Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, Real Steel, Night at the Museum), to create a new story with a younger lead.

Whilst there is still every chance this whole thing could fall apart again, this is the closest they’ve come to bringing ‘Uncharted’ to the big screen so far. It’s looking increasingly likely it may actually happen this time!

Tom Holland can be seen next in Spider-Man: Homecoming which hits UK cinemas on the 7th July 2017.
