HBO Renews ‘Veep’ For Season 7 and ‘Silicon Valley’ For Season 5

Neither of these come as a huge surprise, but HBO has renewed Veep for a 7th Season, and Silicon Valley for a 5th Season the US network announced today.

The award winning ‘Silicon Valley’ follows the adventures of Richard Hendricks (Thomas Middleditch), Bachman (T. J. Miller), Dinesh (Kumail Nanjiani), Gilfoyle (Martin Starr) & Jared (Zach Woods), as they, somewhat, fail upwards, with their company Pied Piper in the San Francisco mecca of tech startups.

The 5th season of the show will, however, be losing one of the main cast members. T. J. Miller who plays Erlich Bachman will not be returning. HBO released a statement saying “The producers of Silicon Valley and T.J. Miller have mutually agreed that T.J. will not return for season 5. In Erlich Bachman, T.J. has brought to life an unforgettable character, and while his presence on the show will be missed, we appreciate his contribution and look forward to future collaborations.”

Created by Mike Judge (Office Space, Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill), and based on his own experiences of working in real Silicon Valley, ‘Silicon Valley’ has been nominated for every tv plaudit you can think of, picking up multiple Emmys, WGA, and Critics’ Choice Awards.

‘Veep’, follows the rise & fall (and possible rise again?), of US politician Selina Meyer (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). Now out of office, the former President and Vice-President, aided (or hindered) by her ‘support staff’, she is struggling to navigate the new uncharted political waters, and secure a legacy. Also stars Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Reid Scott, Matt Walsh and Timothy Simons.

Created by Armando Iannucci as a US version of ‘The Thick Of It’, ‘Veep’ has been nominated for 42 Emmy Awards, and won 12, including multiple Outstanding Lead Actress wins for Louis-Dreyfus, and for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Silicon Valley and Veep are both currently airing on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
