‘Line Of Duty’: BBC Extends Season 6 Adding An Extra Episode

For those of you that can never get enough Line Of Duty, we have some good news! The upcoming 6th Season has been extended from six episodes to seven!

The next instalment of the hit police thriller will feature a brand new case as the team investigate Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson, played by Kelly Macdonald (‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘Trainspotting’), the senior investigating officer of an unsolved murder, whose unconventional conduct raises suspicions at AC-12.

The 6th Season will see the return of series regulars, Martin Compston as D.S. Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure as D.C. Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar as Superintendent Ted Hastings. They are joined by ‘Line Of Duty’ newcomers Shalom Brune-Franklin (‘Cursed’, ‘Our Girl’), Perry Fitzpatrick (‘Suspects’, ‘Cursed’), Andi Osho (‘Curfew’, ‘I May Destroy You’) and Prasanna Puwanarajah (‘Defending the Guilty’, ‘Doctor Foster’, ‘Patrick Melrose’).

The series returned to filming in September last year, following a six-month break. It was originally planned to air in late 2020, but that date was pushed following the production shutdown caused by the global pandemic. Many shows have found themselves having to cut back on episodes due to the issues with filming around COVID, so the extension of the drama by one episode comes as an extremely nice surprise!

‘Line Of Duty’ is written and created by Jed Mercurio, and made for BBC One by World Productions. The new series will be directed by Daniel Nettheim, Gareth Bryn, and Jennie Darnell, and the producer is Ken Horn. Executive producers are Jed Mercurio, Simon Heath for World Productions, and Tommy Bulfin for BBC One. International distribution of the sixth series of Line Of Duty is handled by ITV Studios.

Line Of Duty‘ Season 6 will premiere on BBC One & iPlayer “soon” in 2021. For those of you wanting to refresh your memory or catch up on the series, Seasons 1-5 are available both on BBC iPlayer and Netflix UK. Season 2 is also being aired for the first time on BBC One (previously aired on BBC Two) from Monday, 8th February 2021 at 9pm.

The BBC released this humourous little clip on Twitter earlier today announcing the additional episode:
