It maybe a year away, but Peter Jackson has released the first trailer for The Hobbit!

Dwarfs, hobbits, elves, Gandalf, Gollum, and a certain ring all make an appearance. No sign of the gold hoarding, fire breathing dragon in this one, but i’m sure we’ll get to see  a lot more info over the next 12 months.

Roll on December 14th 2012!

Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield

Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield

Last but certainly not least of dwarves from The Hobbit is finally revealed – Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield! Thorin is leader of the Company of Dwarves, and was the son of Thráin II, the King of Durin’s Folk in their exile from Erebor, and the grandson of King Thrór. The sword Thorin is wielding in that picture is Orcrist (goblin-cleaver).

So there you have it! All 13 of the dwarves from Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit!

Another day, and another lot of dwarves from The Hobbit have appeared online. Balin (Ken Stott) and Dwalin (Graham McTavish) make the last 2 of Thorin Oakenshield’s company of dwarves for the Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’. I’m expecting picture of Spook’s Richard Armitage as Thorin himself to be announced imminently!

Balin and Dwalin are brothers, and the sons of Fundin. Dwalin, the younger of the two, is the first of the dwarves to arrive at Bag End and is a strong and powerful fighter. Balin is an older and experienced warrior. He was just 7yrs old at the Lonely Mountain when the dragon Smaug attacked and killed many of the dwarves there. They are both close, trusted friends of Thorin.

Nori, Ori, Dori, Kili, Fili, Oin and Gloin

We bought you 5 of the dwarves from Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey‘ a couple of days ago, but now we have 2 more to add to the line up. A bit more photoshopping, and  Dean O’Gorman as Fili and Being Human’s Aidan Turner as Kili join the group.

If your thinking they look a bit less like your traditional ‘short round beardy dwarf’, that’ll be because Kili and Fili are the scouts of the outfit. They are also Thorin’s (Richard Armitage) nephews and the youngest in the company.

UPDATE: And here are 3 more! Stephen Hunter as ‘Bombur’, James Nesbitt as ‘Bofur’, & Ken Stott as ‘Balin’ (i’ll shop them into the lineup when I get chance!)

Stephen Hunter as ‘Bombur’, James Nesbitt as ‘Bofur’, William Kircher as ‘Bifur’

Still left to come are Graham McTavish as ‘Dwalin’, Ken Stott as ‘Balin’, and of course, Richard Armitage as ‘Thorin Oakenshield’!

The Hobbit Bilbo

Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins

There was a shot of 3 of the dwarves from Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey‘, that cropped up online yesterday, and now 2 more have joined them.

Quick bit of photoshop later, and I give you a group shot of Nori (Jed Brophy), Ori (Adam Brown), Dori (Mark Hadlow), Oin (John Callen), and Gloin (Peter Hambleton).

For those of you that haven’t caught the recent issue of Empire magazine, i’ve also included their pic of Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins.

All shaping up to look every bit as superb as The Lord of the Rings. Can’t wait… Roll on 2012! :D

Dean

Dean O'Gorman

Peter Jackson has just announced that they’ve not only found a replacement for the sadly departed Rob Kazinsky, but also cast the Elven King Thrandruil. Kiwi actor Dean O’Gorman will take over from Kazinsky as Fili, and Lee Pace, probably best know as Ned from the excellent Pushing Daisies will play Thrandruil.

Jackson went on to say “Dean’s a terrific Kiwi actor, who I am thrilled to be working with.” And for those of you that know him from the Kiwi show ‘The Almighty Johnsons’, don’t panic, The Hobbit shooting schedule will allow Dean to continue with a second series next year.

Jackson also added “Casting these Tolkien stories is very difficult, especially the Elven characters, and Lee has always been our first choice for Thrandruil…

Lee Pace

Lee Pace

When we were first discussing who would be right for Thrandruil, Lee came into mind almost immediately.” It was apparently Pace’s roll in the movie ‘The Fall’ that put him on Jackson’s radar.

Nice to see they’ve managed to keep the production moving forward despite the slight casting hiccup. Never seen O’Gorman in anything, and I only really know Lee Pace from Pushing Daisies, but I have complete faith in Peter and his team’s casting abilities. The more news I get the more I’m looking forward to this film! :)
