Robot Chicken Season 4

Robot Chicken

Robot Chicken

Robot Chicken is back with it’s 4th Season, and the quality just gets stronger each time it comes back! From the opening episode that guest stars Joss Whedon, Ron Moore and Seth MacFarlane, through to the episode with cocaine fuelled Powerpuff Girls and the one with Dick Cheney as Iron Man (now there’s a frighting prospect!)

Each show may only be 12 minuites long, but they’re rammed full of more geek and pop culture references than you can shake an 80′s He-Man action figure at. Gag’s coming at you so quickly it’s easy to miss one, and end up going back to watch it again.

The DVD also contains some excellent commentaries from creators Seth Green & Matthew Senreich along with a host of guest stars from the various episodes, and some entertaining footage from the San Diego Comic-Con ‘08 and New York Comic Con ‘09 Panels.

9/10 – Funny, brilliant, and geeking awesome!

Titan Maximum Season 1

The creators of Robot Chicken are here to prove that leaving the fate of the world in the hands of idiot kids really ain’t that good a plan…

TITAN MAXIMUM

TITAN MAXIMUM is a riff on those japanese Power Rangers type ‘Saturday morning’ shows, but TITAN FORCE FIVE (the team that command the mighty Titan Maximum robot) are nothing like the teams you’ve seen before…

There’s Palmer (Breckin Meyer) – the dashing, if a bit dumb, leader with an ego the size of a planet. Sasha (Eden Espinosa) – the presidents (kinda slutty, and as subtle as a sonic boom) daughter. Jodi (Rachael Leigh Cook) – Cheerful and determined, but full of self doubt (not helped by Sasha costaint ribbing). Willie (Dan Milano) – Younger brother of Palmer, but with none of his smooth charm, he’s a lifelong super-nerd who’s suddenly living the dream. And finally Leon – He’s a monkey… Titan Force’s former monkey butler to be exact.

When a once peaceful solar system is threatened by a genocidal madman (voiced by Seth Green), the dispanded TITAN FORCE FIVE commanding the mighty TITAN MAXIMUM are pulled out of their enforced ‘retirement’ to save the day.

It’s robo-bashing, laser-blasting, monkey-flying, sometimes naked spacefaring action and adventure as only the creators of Emmy award winning ROBOT CHICKEN can deliver!

8/10 – Robo-bashing, monkey-flying, spacefaring action!

Kids Take Control of Summer TV with Sky Movies Family HD

Family squabbles over who controls the TV remote could be banished this August as Sky Movies pits nation against nation and calls on fledgling film fans to help it shape its summer schedule.

Each Thursday in August, Sky Movies Family will be handing over control of their schedule to 8 – 13 year old movie buffs by asking them to vote for which movies they’d most like to see on the small screen that day. A triple bill of movies made up of the three top films from the voting results will be shown back-to-back from 4pm each Thursday.

Sky Movies Family HD is giving children across the UK and Ireland the chance to participate in the competition, with each Thursday of the month being given over to a particular nation: Scotland on 5th August, Ireland on 12th August; Wales on 19th August and finally England on 26th August.

As well as getting the chance to see their favourite films on-screen, when someone votes for their ideal schedule they will be in with the chance of winning a trip to London. One lucky voter from each region will be selected at random and whisked off to Sky Movies’ office in London to record a special dedication that will be screened ahead of their selected movies. The winner will get to meet and record their dedication with Craig Stevens, presenter of Sky Movies’ The Family Show.  Craig will be on hand to offer tips and advice to the winner as they make their Sky Movies debut during an all expenses paid trip to London for them and their family.

SCOTLAND (Thursday 5th August) gets to pick from: Bedtime Stories, Coraline, Dr. Dolittle: Tail To The Thief, Home Alone, Hotel For Dogs, Igor, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, Meet Dave, Stuart Little, Three Men and A Little Lady.

IRELAND’s (Thursday 12th August) choices are: Beethoven, Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey!, Hannah Montana: The Movie, Journey To The Center Of The Earth (2008), Kung Fu Panda, Problem Child, Race To Witch Moutain, The Tale Of Despereaux, Titan A E

WALES: (Thursday 19th August) can choose: Beethoven 2nd, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Cats & Dogs, Dragon Ball: Evolution, Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs, Inkheart, Night At The Museum 2, Open Season 2, Shrek, Space Chimps

Gwen and Captain Jack

With all the new faces on Doctor Who it was never entirely clear what would happen with it’s spin off show, Torchwood. However, the Beeb have announced today that Torchwood will be back, and it’s gonna be bigger then ever!

Dispite handing over the reins of Who to Stephen Moffat, Russell T Davies has retained his head writer/show-runner status on Torchwood, heading up a team of writers for the new series. One major change this time though is that the show won’t all be coming from Wales. Plans are afoot to give the show a more global look, with filming scheduled to take place in the US, and other locations around the world. John Barrowman and Eve Myles will be back as Captain Jack and Gwen, along with a new set of Torchwood recruits.

The new 10-episode series will be a co-production between BBC Cymru Wales, BBC Worldwide and US network ‘Starz Entertainment.’

NBC’s The Cape Preview

With a number of US show’s on the way out (24, Lost, Heroes, and Flash Forward to name but a few…), the networks have started announcing some of their new Fall Season pick ups. One from NBC that caught my eye was ‘The Cape‘, starring ER’s David Lyons.

Lyon’s plays officer Vince Faraday. A good cop trying to clean up a corrupt city, who get framed for murder and left for dead. forced into hiding and separated from his family, he take inspiration from his son’s favorite comic book and becomes ‘The Cape’.

James Frain (The Tudors), take up the role of billionaire Peter Fleming – aka Chess – The Cape’s nemesis, and Keith David as Faraday’s mentor Max Malini. The cast is rounded off with a topping of Summer Glau (Firefly, Terminator: TSCC, Dollhouse) as geek blogger Orwell.

What are it’s chances? Well… Mixed i guess. Given it’s on NBC, and they’re looking to replace the cancelled Heroes, they might give it a chance. But then it’s fairly well established that NBC CEO Jeff Zucker is an idiot, so anything is possible… Plus poor Summer hasn’t had much luck with show longevity recently, so hopefully this will be one to break the trend!
