Ghostbusters 3… ish… Ghostbusters goes Next Gen

Okay, so it’s not a movie, it’s a next gen video game. However, it is written by Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis though. And it has all the original cast voicing their own characters (even Bill Murray). It’s set just after the end of the events of Ghostbusters 2, and is an original story, so it is effectively a sequel. Kinda like a movie tie-in game without having to go to the hassle of actually making the movie! :D

Check out the video below for more info, and game footage!

Why They Fight – A Explaination of The Writer’s Strike

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last week, you’ll be aware that the Writer’s Guild of America is currently on strike over the pay they get from DVD sales, and digital broadcasting. This is causing havoc with the US networks scheduling and programming (as it was intended to do). Daily shows such as Letterman, Leno, The Daily Show, etc… are off air. Series we get in the UK such as 24, Heroes, Lost, Family Guy, House, Prison Break, Scrubs, The Office US, Nip/Tuck are all either postponed, or running shortened seasons.

In case your wondering why this is happening, i came across this nice succinct explanation of why they are striking and why it’s important they do so:

It’s not like they’re asking for a lot. If your still not convinced, think of it this way… without writers, you’d be stuck in a hell of wall-to-wall reality tv *shudder*.

If you’d like to show your support for the strike there is an online petition running here.

New Eye of Judgment Trailer

D bought The Eye of Judgment recently for the PS3, and say’s it’s really cool. It’s a turn based card game mixed in with a video game. It use’s the PlayStation Eye to read coded collectable cards that are placed on the ‘9 Fields’ battle mat. Sounds like a pretty cool idea. :)

<Added>

D here, the Eye of Judgement is fantastic, but has one simple flaw… The game mat you get with it is cloth and sometimes creases or moves easily… this makes the EOJ lose sight of what cards are being played and go mental for a few seconds. Myself and my brother have been found screaming at it late at night trying to make the thing see the cards faster hehe. Still, its a great addition to the growing accessories of the PS3, and is a whole lot of fun to play, which is what counts.

Joss Whedon’s Playing With A Dollhouse!

Joss Whedons Dollhouse

Joss Whedon’s returning to TV! – WOO and indeed HOOOOO! :D

As any regular reader will know know, here at Geektown we’re HUGE fans of Joss’s, and we say any news that he’s coming back to the small screen can only be good. :)

So what is it?

Well, it’s not in the Buffyverse. It does however, star a buffy alumni – The lovely Eliza Dushku.

It’s called ‘Dollhouse‘:

“Dollhouse stars Dushku as Echo, one of a group of secret agents living in a futuristic dorm. Each has the ability to be imprinted with custom personalities and abilities for special assignments. When they return, their newly acquired memories are wiped. The show follows Echo as she takes on a variety of assignments—some romantic, some adventurous, some uplifting, some illegal—and gains awareness of her role and confinement.”

Fox has given a seven-episode commitment for the show… Humm… We all know in the past Fox’s idea of commitment has been in the past… Joss says “It’s a brand new day over there. It’s a completely new bunch of people and they seem really intelligent and supportive.” I really really really hope your right. I hate to see another Firefly incident…

I’m totally psyched about getting a new Whedon run show (Tim Minear, Joss’s Angel & Firefly partner in crime, has been roped in too). Also happy to see Eliza Dushku in a new Whedon vehicle (happy to see Eliza in most things actually). ;)

KotOR Galaxies?

KotOR MMORPG

Okay, this is a rumour that’s been around ever since Bioware announced they were getting into the MMO business. However, it’s recently resurfaced and is rampaging through the gaming community like a stampeding Bantha.

The question is of course:

Are Bioware making a Knights of the Old Republic MMORPG?

The latest rumour to stoke the KotOR MMO fire is a press release from LucasArts today claiming “LucasArts and BioWare Corp. to Create Ground-Breaking Interactive Entertainment Product”. The game “…will push the boundaries of the gaming market by utilizing the strengths of both companies to deliver an innovative, high-quality experience.”

Well, that has to be a KotOR game, surely. They’d have to be idiots for it not to be! With all the hype at the moment, i mean, come on?! Look at it this way. We know Bioware are making an MMO. We know they are making a game for LucasArts that “will push the boundaries of the gaming market” (and that doesn’t sound like a straight RPG to me). Plus, what other license is it likely to be if it’s not KotOR? They already have quite a cool looking Indy game in development to coincide with the Indy 4 release. Monkey Island? Great as some of those games were, seems rather unlikely… ;)

Star Wars seems the most likely license. Plus, thanks to the appalling management of SOE, their current Star Wars MMO (Star Wars Galaxies) has been on it’s last legs for a long time now.

EA (who recently bought Bioware) want in on the MMO market, and don’t seem to like it when companies they own spread themselves too thinly. Would EA be happy about them creating an MMO and a separate game for LucasArts?

Plus, you have to add in all the rumours there have been, and all the hype and positive reaction to the idea of a KotOR MMO.

All i’ll say is this…

Bioware/LucasArts – If your aren’t making a KotOR MMO, you flamin well should be! ;)
