Well, okay, that might be a slight exaggeration, but this is still insanely cool, and going on my 2009 WANT list…

The Force Trainer

The Force Trainer

The Force Trainer

The Force Trainer contains a brainwave sensing headset which allows the user to manipulate a sphere within a clear 10-inch-tall training tower using only the power of the mind! “Star Wars sound effects and audio clips emitted from the base unit “cue you in to progress to the next level (from Padawan to Jedi) or when to move the sphere up or down to keep challenging yourself.” Frank Adler of toymaker Uncle Milton Industries.

The Force Trainer is just one of a whole bunch of ‘mind controlled’ games due out this year such as Mattel’s Mind Flex system.

And Doctor Who’s New Doctor is…

Matt Smith!

Matt Smith is the new Doctor in Doctor Who

Nope, i’ve heard of him either. At 26, Matt Smith will be the youngest person to take on the role of The Doctor in Doctor Who when David Tennant leaves in 2010, and Matt becomes the 11th Doctor. He is a relative unknown, although like Tennant before him, has had a number of lead roles in BBC dramas. He’s also worked with previous Doctor’s assistant Billie Piper in Philip Pullman’s The Ruby in the Smoke, and in Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

It’s a brave choice for new show runner Steven Moffat to go with someone so young, as Steven had said he’d always seen the Doctor being older (“in his 40s”). I don’t know any of Matt Smith’s work so i can’t really judge if it’s a good choice or not. I do however trust Moffat, and i can only assume he’s seen something in him that he thinks will work for the role. When interviewed, Moffat commented “You need to be old and young at the same time, a boffin and an action hero, a cheeky schoolboy and the wise old man of the universe. As soon as Matt walked through the door and blew us away with a bold and brand new take on the Time Lord, we knew we had our man. 2010 is a long time away but rest assured the Eleventh Doctor is coming – and the universe has never been so safe.”

I guess only time(lord) will tell… ;)

A few more pictures of Matt Smith, the 11th Doctor (I’m guessing that’s not his final outfit).

Robert Carlyle Heading Through The Stargate!

robert-carlyle-stargate

According to this article in The Hollywood Reporter, Robert Carlyle will play  the leader in the next series in the Stargate franchise, Stargate Universe.

“Described as edgier, darker and younger-skewing than its predecessors, “SGU” follows a group of soldiers, scientists and civilians left to fend for themselves when forced through a Stargate after their hidden base comes under attack. The survivors, who emerge aboard an ancient ship missing in the far reaches of space, are led by Dr. David Rush (Carlyle), who works to unlock the ship’s mysteries and return the group home but also might have ulterior motives.”

Interesting choice for a lead role, and a pretty big name for the franchise. But he plays action and comedy extremely well, so he should fit into the Stargate erm… universe pretty well! This is a slight change from what they’d originally planned by the looks of things, as the original casting notes (see below), had the leader of the team being a Colonel Everett Young, a 40′s handsome, capable, former SG team leader. A military man, not a doctor. Dr. Rush will be the only ‘name’ on the regular cast, with new faces filling the other roles.

Original Casting Notes:

Colonel Everett Young
40′s handsome, capable, former SG team leader. Like the Jack O’Neill of ten years ago, but Young’s edges have tended to sharpen over time. He requested permission to serve the remainder of his commission on Earth upon marrying his wife, Hailey, two years ago, but for now he’s temporary commander of a secret off world base. The loss of two members of his team several years ago has taught him never to take anything for granted, and be prepared for anything. He stays on top of his team so they stay alive. STAR NAMES ONLY. SERIES REGULAR;

Tamara Jon
20-25, all ethnicities (Asian Preferably). SGC Field medic, Captain grade. Off world experience. Beautiful, tough, smart, capable. Paramedic level training. Able to triage serious injury. Modest background. Dreamed of being a doctor but couldn’t afford medical school and the Air Force was her best option. She ends up being the most medically inclined person on the ship but is overwhelmed by the lack of knowledge and experience treating seriously wounded and ill patients. She also lacks the medicine and supplies and has to make do. SERIES REGULAR;

Chloe Carpenter
20ish. Stunning and sexy. Daughter of a U.S. Senator. Silver spoon upbringing and a little spoiled but not stupid either. Politically and socially savvy. Dreams of following in her father’s footsteps but for now she’s a bit of a party girl in her first year at an Ivy League school. Her father’s tragic death and the dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship seriously tests her character. SERIES REGULAR;

Eli Hitchcock
20-25. Total slacker. Utter genius. Mathematics, computers, anything he puts his mind to. Acerbic sense of humor. A social outcast. Comes from a broken home. Lacks confidence because his true intelligence has never really been recognized like Matt Damon’s character from Good Will Hunting with a little Jack Black thrown in sptv050769. SERIES REGULAR;

Lt. Jared Nash
20-25. Junior S.G.C. team member. Officer material but green and rough around the edges. Every teenage girl’s fantasy. Like a college quarterback thrown into his first pro game, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he’s ready for the responsibility and must learn to take command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities on the ship to keep everyone alive. Like Jason Bourne, he is skilled and well-trained however he is mentally unprepared for the urgency of the situation. SERIES REGULAR;

Ron “Psycho” Stasiak
20, all ethnicities. Marine. Big, strong, silent. You want him on your side. You don’t want him mad at you. Lacks control over his temper in non combat situations. His past is a mystery but it’s clear something dark formed the hard shell around him. Yet, there must also be some moral center because otherwise he’d kill everyone around him. Think Eric Bana’s character “Hoot” in Blackhawk Down. SERIES REGULAR.

I really wish they’d make another movie, but this’ll do in the meantime! Despite it’s rather troubled history getting published, Ghostbusters The Video Game is looking awesome!

wow-willis-tshirts

I very rarely pimp other bits of our own site, but few new tshirts in for the run up to Christmas at the GeekTown Shop so i thought i’d highlight them.

To celebrate the launch of Wraith of the Lich King, we’ve added a few “My guild went to Northrend and all i got was this lousy tshirttshirt.

And there’s also a new typeface variant of the ever popular “I’m What Willis Was Talkin’ ‘Bout” tshirt.

If there’s any other geek related tees you’d like to see in the shop, leave a comment below, or drop us an email, and we’ll see what we can do!

There’s a whole bunch of other WoW and geek related tee’s so why not pop in and have a look at the GeekTown Shop. :)

Damn Blizzard’s Hypno-packaging…

Yeh Silvio, I know the feeling…

Personally i thing Blizzard have invented some sort of hypnotic packaging that makes it impossible for an exWoW player to walk into a gaming retail outlet and not walk out with a copy of Wrath of the Lich King…

Yes… I’m back on WoW…

Damn you Blizzard…
