HULK SMASHes back onto TV
It seems Hulk could be smashing his way back onto TV thanks to Marvel and ABC. This is an interesting move for Marvel, given how neatly they’ve been tying together they’re movie superheroes recently. My guess would be that, given they’ve failed twice to make a Hulk sized dent in the box-office, that’s what pushed them to give the big green fella another run at the small screen.
Given the popularity of the Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno late 70s/early 80s TV show, this could be a good move. The show is in ‘early development’ under the guidance of Marvel’s TV head, Jeph Loeb. As well as being responsible for some awesome comic writing (Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Dark Victory and a great Superman/Batman run), he’s also written episodes of Smallville, Lost and Heroes. Loeb also just completed a run on the Hulk comic, so he’s a man very familiar with subject matter.
This isn’t the only Marvel property possibly coming to the small screen. Cloak and Dagger is another Marvel comic title that was announced as being in early development, but according to Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada, almost all Marvel assets are being looked at as possible TV, movie or animation projects.
The real question is, will this fit with Marvel’s upcoming Avengers movie (directed by Joss Whedon) or be a totally separate entity? I suspect the latter, as i can’t see Mark Ruffalo taking on the role on TV. That would make whoever does Hulk up, the 4th actor in recent years to tackle the role.
Liam Neeson Loves It When A Plan Comes Together!
According to Variety, 20th Century Fox have finally got round to looking at casting for the long mooted A-Team movie. Liam Neeson (Star Wars: Episode I, Batman Begins… i’m not listing anymore. If you don’t know who Liam Neeson is, what rock have you been living under!) is apparently ‘in negotiations’ to play Hannibal. Bradley Cooper (The Hangover, Yes Man, and played fake surgeon soap star Aidan Stone in Nip/Tuck) is in talks for Templeton “Faceman” Peck. Cooper looks like he’s going to be someone to watch over the next 12 months, as he’s also rumoured to be donning the power ring to play Hal Jordan in the new Green Lantern movie.
This big screen version of the classic 80s show The A-Team is being directed by Joe Carnahan (Smoking Aces, Narc…) and is due for release June 2010. Ridley Scott is producing.
Still no news on who’ll Murdock or B.A. I pity the fool that has to follow in Mr. T’s footsteps… (Okay, I’m sorry, but there had to be one ‘I pity the fool’ remark in there!) ![]()
UPDATE 12/06/09: Bradley Cooper has confirmed to Empire that (assuming the plan does come together) he will play Lt. Templeton ‘Faceman‘ Peck in The A-Team movie. Also there are rumours flying that the rapper Common is in talks to fill Mr. T’s shoes as B.A.
Buffy Getting ‘Rebooted’?
For the love of… Someone, make them stop!
Given that the only thing that didn’t suck in the 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie was the script, the idea of the producers/director rebooting (there’s that word again) Buffy without any direction from it’s founding visionary Joss Whedon, fills me with 7 different types of horror. But according to Hollywood Reporter, that’s exactly what Vertigo Entertainment along with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her huband Kaz Kuzui are apparently thinking of doing.
I know with the sucess of the Twilight movie vampires are hot property again, but do they honestly think ‘rebooting’ Buffy so soon after it was such a tv hit is a good idea? Someone really needs to point out to the Kuzui’s and Vertigo that just because you can do something, it doesn’t mean you should…
As Buffy alumni Tim Minear pointed out “…the main reason I do not want to see a movie done by these people without Joss… cause even with him the first time around the movie still had some major suckage.” The most appropriate remark i’ve seen on this subject though comes from web comic artist Neill Cameron – “This must be what religious people feel like when someone desecrates their holy text”.
Latest One Sheet For The Incredible Hulk!
Still not totally sure on the Hulk’s 2nd major big screen outing. I do like Ed Norton for Bruce Banner though. Guess we’ll just have to wait till June 13th 2008 when The Incredible Hulk is due for release in the UK. In the meantime, check out the pretty sweet new poster they released (click it for bigger version).
