Smallville Gets a 10th season!
The Smallville folk are celebrating this week after getting pick up for a historic 10th season. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is their last. With Tom Welling is heading into his mid-30s, I’m not sure how much longer you can realistically expect him to get away with playing ‘young Clark’. Plus the story-lines really are getting the point Clark should be full blown Superman by now.
As yes STILL no news from the programming numpties at E4 as to the air date for Season 9 of Smallville in the UK… As i mentioned in the UK air dates post, it’s usually around May, so we’ll have to wait and see. I still don’t get their logic in holding the series back for so long after the US air dates though…
Smallville: Absolute Justice Pics
Some shots of the upcoming ‘Smallville: Absolute Justice’ tv movie have started to pop up around the web over the last couple of days, so I thought it’s only fair to post them up!
- Doctor Fate and Stargirl
- Hawkman smacking down Green Arrow
- Hawkman (Stargate’s Michael Shanks)
- Clark’s new outfit
There’s also this trailer:
Well, I say upcoming…
‘Smallville: Absolute Justice’ tv movie IS upcoming if your in the USA…
Once again, despite the US having started Smallville season 9 in Sept 09, the UK is stuck waiting on the moronic idiot E4 programme schedulers for a Smallville season 9 uk air date… Given past history, i’m guessing it’ll be May 2010 before UK fans will get to see it (legally anyway) in the UK. I really really don’t condone downloading, but i’m not sure what broadcasters like E4 think is going to happen when you get a very dedicated fanbase that you force to wait 8 months to view their show legitimately…
Smallville Interactive Timeline!
As part of the launch of SMALLVILLE: SEASON 8 on Blu-ray and DVD (12th October 2009) in the UK, i’ve been sent a link to this cool little flash timeline widget that shows key events throughout the shows history. Least it gives you something to do whilst waiting for Season 9′s UK air date (which looks like sometime 2010 if E4 have their way).
Our favourite superhero-in-the-making, Clark Kent (Tom Welling), is back and on supercharged form in SMALLVILLE: SEASON 8 – out on Blu-ray and DVD from 12th October 2009.
Following the dramatic finale of Season 7 and the collapse of the Fortress of Solitude, Clark is at a cross roads in his life and decides he needs to make some big changes.
In SMALLVILLE: SEASON 8, Clark Kent moves closer to embracing his destiny as the iconic superhero he will become. Spending less time in his hometown and more time in the big city of Metropolis, Clark comes across a multitude of DC Comic characters, including the “Ultimate Destroyerâ€, an alien from Clark’s home world of Krypton. Clark also begins his career at the Daily Planet working opposite Lois Lane. With Clark and Lois thrust into such close proximity, sparks begin to fly and feelings start to surface while he struggles to deal with his dual personalities of reporter and superhero.
Follow the transformation of boy to man and local hero to superhero, as Clark takes us closer to his destiny in this reinterpretation of the enduring Superman mythology.
With realistic portrayals and award-winning, state-of-the-art special effects, Smallville: Season 8 is, available on both DVD and Blu-ray – offering stunning high definition clarity.

Smallville Finds Zod!
It looks like Clark will be having another run in with General Zod in season 9 of Smallville, and obviously like all good evil characters on US shows, he’s English. British actor Callum Blue will be taking on Kal-El in season 9. Callum will be familiar to those of you that saw the wonderful ‘Dead Like Me‘ as the reaper Madson, or you may have spotted him as Billie Piper‘s boyfriend in Secret Diary of a Call Girl.
Is isn’t Zod’s first appearance in Smallville having previously escaped the Phantom Zone, capturing Lana and inhabiting Lex Luthor’s body making him evil… well, more evil than usual anyway.
The original Zod, Terrance Stamp, also has a recurring role in Smallville as the voice of Kal’s father Jor-El. Interestingly Stamp’s version of Zod was also used in CGI form when we see Zod being forced from Lex’s body, so there’s a slight continuity error there. I’m sure they can cover it by slapping a Zod’s goatee on Callum. That might be a slight giveaway to Clark though, because as we all know, people with goatee beards are inherently evil. ![]()
Smallville Season 8 Returning To UK This November!
Well this makes a change! The folks over at E4 seem to finally have got the message, and realised leaving a gap of over a year between the US and UK broadcast dates might not actually make a whole lot of sense…
After much complaining from fans, instead of waiting the originally planned 9 months, they’re decided to air Smallville Season 8 from Tues 11th of November 2008 at 9pm on E4.
That’s still several weeks behind the US, so they’re not into the BBC (Heroes) or Sky1 (Prison Break, 24, Lost, Stargate etc…) level of airing US imports a few days after the US transmissions, but at least lil’ E4 are trying bless ‘em! ![]()
“Smallville” Creators Fly Up Up And Away…
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, creators and executive producers of Smallville have decided to leave the show.
“We are incredibly proud of our work on this show. We achieved what we set out to do. We never compromised our vision. We leave knowing that “Smallville†is the longest-running comic book based series of all-time.”
Without Gough and Millar, it would lead me to think Season 8 could very well be the last for Smallville. Although i suppose after 8 seasons, at some point they are going to have to reach a time where Clark has to turn into Superman.
UPDATED: The CW today announced the new showrunners for season 8.
“Al Gough and Miles Millar have been great partners and instrumental in the development and success of ‘Smallville,’” said the network. “While we are sad to see them go, we are very excited to announce that executive producers Darren Swimmer, Todd Slavkin, Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson will helm the show next season. [They] have been writing for the show for the past six seasons, and as producers for the last four years, they have played an integral role in the ongoing creative evolution of the series. As showrunners, they will continue to deliver the compelling storytelling that ‘Smallville’ fans have come to expect and love.”
