Supernatural With a British Twist? BBC’s The Fades

Post by:
20 May 2011 | 2 Comments

More new fantasy/sci-fi, but this time not a US import, but a new British show from writer Jack Thorne (This Is England ’86, Skins, The Scouting Book For Boys).

Daniel Kaluuya

Daniel Kaluuya - Mac

The Fades (previously titled Touch, but Kiefer Sutherland’s new show nicked that!) stars Iain De Caestecker (River City, Coronation Street) as Paul, a young chap haunted, not only by apocalyptic dreams, but also the spirits of the dead which he can inexplicably see all around him. Unfortunately for Paul and his best friend Mac (Daniel Kaluuya – Skins, Psychoville, Sucker Punch), a rather bitter and vengeful spirit (refereed to as ‘Fades‘) has found a way to break through the barrier from the spirit world and placed the pair at the centre of a crisis that could lead to the end of the world as we know it!

They aren’t totally alone in this spirit battle though. The duo have help in the form of Neil (Johnny Harris – This is England ’86, Spartacus) ‘a lone warrior against the forces of darkness’ who becomes Paul’s mentor, and Helen (Natalie Dormer – The Tudors, Silk, W.E.) who, like Paul also has a unique gift – the ability to see the future.

Natalie Dormer - Helen

Additional cast include Tom Ellis (Miranda, Harley Street, Merlin), playing Helen’s ex-husband Mark; Lily Loveless (Skins) as Paul’s feisty twin sister Anna, who’s less than impressed with her sibling, and Claire Rushbrook (Ashes To Ashes) as Paul as Anna’s mum.

Hard to tell from just the write up, but it’s sounding a little bit like the brilliant Supernatural, but with a very British edge to it. There’s a sneak peak of The Fades coming at next Sunday’s London Comic Con, so hopefully we’ll soon have a trailer and some more info to share!

Sky Atlantic & Sky Living Launch Today!

Boardwalk Empire

Boardwalk Empire tonight on Sky Atlantic

After months of anticipation, Sky Atlantic has finally launched today! It all officially kicks off tonight at 9pm with the brilliant Boardwalk Empire, followed by the US’s top rating New York police drama starring Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg, Blue Bloods at 10pm.

Living TV has also re-launched today under the guise of Sky Living. It’s swiped some shows off Sky1 (such as Bones - which, as of tomorrow night, continues from where it left off on Sky1), and has some new original programming in the form of Supernatural drama – Bedlam. Still no real news on the Supernatural drama we really want to know about… Supernatural, Season 6… What we have managed to get out of them is that Supernatural will DEFINITELY be returning on Sky Living, and is NOT DROPPED by the channel as many rumours are saying. In terms of a uk air date though, they will only say Supernatural is back with Season 6 ‘later in the year’… Bah…

Bones Season 6

Bones is back where it left off tomorrow on Sky Living

You’ll also notice a bit of a change around on your Sky electronic program guide (EPG) as well. Sky1 is staying at 106, but will be joined by the newly revamped ‘Sky Living‘ at 107, and Sky Atlantic at 108.

Some other channels are also moving around:

  • Comedy Central /Comedy Central HD moves to 112 (currently 126).
  • Universal / Universal HD moves to 113 (currently #130).
  • Syfy / SyFy HD moves to 114 (currently #129).
  • FX / FX HD moves to 124 (currently #164).
  • MTV moves to 126 (currently #350) and reclassifies as a general entertainment channel, rather than a music station.

For those of you with HD boxes, any channel with a HD equivalent will now automatically replace the normal definition counterparts (i.e. Sky1 HD is now on 106 on a Sky HD box.)

To keep track of all the return dates and premiere dates for you favourite US and cult show, keep an eye on our UK Air Dates page.

Sheppard to guest on Doctor Who

Mark Sheppard

Mark Sheppard

It seems that having worked his way through pretty much every US scifi show, the brilliant Mark Sheppard is starting on the British ones! And where better to start than, THE British scifi show -  Doctor Who!

Sheppard with apparently take on the role of Canton Everett Delaware III in a two-part episode, which will take place (and be partly filmed) in the USA. The part is described as a ‘huge role’, so i’m not totally convinced Canton Everett Delaware III will be all that he first appears…

If your unsure who Mark is but are thinking ‘i’m sure i’ve seen him in something’, the chances are you have – he does get around the scifi circuit!

Over recent years, you could have spotted him as:

  • The demon Crowley on Supernatural.
  • Cockney criminal Badger in Firefly.
  • Romo Lampkin in Battlestar Galactica.
  • Director of The Ring in Chuck.
  • Benedict Valda in Warehouse 13.
  • Tanaka in Dollhouse.
  • Dr. Charles Walker / Jack Walker in Medium.
  • Anthony Anthros in Bionic Woman.

And that’s just the scifi shows… He’s also popped up in 24, Leverage, CSI, Burn Notice, NCSI, to name but a few!

I’m a big fan of Mark’s work, so I’m really looking foward to seeing him help, or more likely face-off against Matt Smith.

Not sure which Ad agency is responsible for this quality viral for Supernatural on Living TV, but it is genius! :D

It was recently confirmed that The CW have renewed Supernatural for a 6th Season.

Currently working my way through season 3 on DVD, seeing as Living (for some bizarre reason) stopped their reruns after season 2 to air Season 5… Much as I’m happy they’re finally airing Season 5 for fans, it would be nice if they’d kept the up the nightly reruns too, so us people that came to Supernatural late can catch up!..

Ashes To Ashes, Series 3 - BBC1 – Friday 2nd April at 9pm, 2010.

Ladies, get your Captain Tightpants fix, as
‘Castle’ reaches the UK! Nathan Fillion (Desperate Housewives, Firefly, Serenity) stars as Richard Castle – a famous mystery novelist who helps the NYPD homicide department solve crimes.

Smallville, Season 9 – E4 – Best guess at the moment is ‘when E4 can be bothered…’ (usually around May 2010 if they’re true to form)… and they have the gall to complain about people downloading episodes, when it started airing in the US in Sept 09! UPDATE: Latest word from E4 is ‘sometime next month (JUNE 2010)’ after it finishes airing in the US on 14 May 2010… UPDATE 2: Latest rumour is June 1st 2010 for Smallville, Season 9‘s return to British TV!
Trying not to go off on another major rant about E4 and their ridiculous scheduling policies…

Dexter, Season 4 – FX – Friday August 27th 2010 at 10pm
