‘Jupiter’s Legacy’: Netflix Releases Trailer & May Premiere Date For Adaptation Of Mark Millar Comic Book
Netflix has released a trailer for ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’, an adaptation of the Mark Millar and Frank Quietly superhero comic book, which premieres this May on the streaming service.
‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ is an epic superhero drama that spans decades and navigates the complex dynamics of family, power, and loyalty. After nearly a century of keeping mankind safe, the world’s first generation of superheroes must look to their children to continue the legacy. But tensions rise as the young superheroes, hungry to prove their worth, struggle to live up to their parents’ legendary public reputations — and exacting personal standards.
Josh Duhamel (‘Transformers’ movies) leads the cast as Sheldon Sampson/The Utopian – the storied leader of the superhero team The Union. But times have changed, and he doesn’t understand the world we live in anymore. Or his own family; Ben Daniels (‘The Crown’, ‘The Exorcist’) plays Walter Sampson/Brain-Wave, Sheldon’s older brother. A man of vast intellect and cunning who, unlike Sheldon, isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty… or bloody; Leslie Bibb (‘Tag’, ‘Iron Man’) takes the role of Grace Sampson/Lady Liberty, Sheldon’s wife and one of the most powerful heroes on the planet. She doesn’t always agree with Sheldon, but strives to balance his ideals with the reality of the modern, often violent, world they live in; Elena Kampouris (‘Sacred Lies’) plays Grace and Sheldon’s daughter, Chloe. Rejecting everything her parents stand for, Chloe has forged her own hedonistic path far away from them. A path that threatens to go against everything her parents have sworn to protect; Andrew Horton (‘Doctors’, ‘How to Talk to Girls at Parties’) plays Brandon, Grace and Sheldon’s son. In training to assume the mantle of The Utopian and become the new leader of The Union, he struggles to live up to his father’s mythic legend.
In addition, Mike Wade (‘Timeless’, ‘For the People’) takes the role of Fitz Small (aka The Flare), the heart and soul of The Union. Despite suffering injuries that ended his career as a superhero, he continues to be one of the most valued members of the team. And is often the only thing holding them together in the face of an increasingly hostile world; And Matt Lanter (‘Timeless’, ‘90210’) stars as George Hutchence (aka Skyfox), who was Sheldon Sampson’s closest friend and ally before turning against him and the rest of his teammates in The Union. Now considered the greatest supervillain in the world, George plots his revenge on the teammates he believes betrayed him.
Sang Kyu Kim (‘Altered Carbon’, ‘The Walking Dead’) serves as showrunner and executive producer for the series, having stepped in when original showrunner Steven S. DeKnight left the project due to the ol’ “creative differences” problem. However, DeKnight wrote and directed the first episode in the series. Mark Millar, James Middleton, Lorenzo Di Bonaventura, Dan McDermott and Frank Quitely also serve as executive producers.
‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ is the first in a slate of series and movies based on the stories of Mark Millar at Netflix after the streaming service acquired Mark Millar’s comic book company Millarworld in 2017. There are also plans to make movies or series from the books ‘American Jesus’, ‘Empress’, ‘Huck’ and ‘Sharkey The Bounty Hunter’.
‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ is set to premiere Friday, 7th May 2021 on Netflix UK and worldwide.
