Couple of Notes on Commenting…

TIPS FOR POSTING It is always extremely helpful when people post dates, times and information below. It is useful in keeping the list as current as possible and makes for a great community spirit. But when posting, please remember the following:

1) Use full programme titles. As instantly recognisable as abbreviations may be to someone who watches that show, to someone who doesn’t, it is just a meaningless collection of letters that have to be looked up.

2) If a bit of information is a rumour, please say so – we can list it as such, pending confirmation

3) If something comes from a reputable source, please quote that source, so we all know it is not just a rumour.

Thank you.

Yes, nothing nefarious going on there. Just purely production issues. It’s filmed on location internationally, and it seems they had a few problems getting filming organised in some of the countries. February 9, 2020 in the US. Shouldn’t be too far behind on Channel 4.

It would be good if the networks can say which USA shows they’ve picked up even if they don’t yet have an air date. I would like to knoiw which shows are coming/coming back.

    • Dave Elliott Dave Elliott says:

Ideally yes, but the problem can be that sometimes the deals for the shows aren’t completed until a few weeks before broadcast, so they can’t officially announce anything. Sometimes the pickups are way closer to the air dates than you might think!

Amazon are now selling Supernatural (S14) on blu ray for £44 – does this mean E4 has dropped the show?? – but they are not selling this on ordinary DVD yet.

Any chance of an update on E4 intentions?

    1+
  8. Chris says:

Does anyone know what’s going on with Charmed on E4? Will they be airing season 2 or have they dropped the show? Also, what’s the deal with Supernatural and Empire? I would have thought both shows would have been scheduled by now.

    2+
    • Andrew Ward says:

Think it has only just started in USA, so might be January again like this year was.

      0
    • Dave Elliott Dave Elliott says:

Charmed would be Early 2020, *if* E4 has managed to retain the rights, which given the way things appear to be going with all the other CW shows at the moment (including Supernatural), is not guaranteed… (see my reply to Natasha a few posts down for more.)

Empire is a 20th Century Fox show, so Disney own it now. No idea if that change has affected the international rights, but it airs on 5Star, and the Channel 5 group schedulers are notoriously unreliable. 5Star has released the schedule up to the end of Oct, and no sign of it yet…

  9. Kieran says:

Any news on when 9-1-1 is coming back

    1+
    • Dave Elliott Dave Elliott says:

No sign of it yet, and we’ve had dates from Sky up to the beginning of November, so it maybe one they’re holding till the new year to remove the big break in the middle… It may also pop up in Nov… just don’t know at the moment.

      0
  10. Natasha says:

Does anyone know why the new episode of Dynasty isn’t on netflix yet?

    0
    • Dave Elliott Dave Elliott says:

Interesting… That’s another CW show which hasn’t shown up in the UK when we expected, along with Batwoman, Black Lightning (although that *may* appear on Netflix UK next week, as it is sometimes late), and Supernatural. Not to mention the other CW shows which haven’t yet been picked up in the UK like Legacies, Roswell New Mexico, and a few others…

There is a rumour flying around that WarnerMedia, who own HBO, CW, Cinemax, TBS, TNT, TruTV, and have the international distribution rights to these shows, are holding on to them to launch their own streaming service in the UK. The problem is, WarnerMedia haven’t announced a streaming service in the UK… They have HBO Max launching in Spring 2020 in the US, and they also control the DC Universe streaming service, but they have yet to announce anything outside of America.

That means, *IF* (i stress, IF) this rumour is correct, at the very very earliest, we’d get it in Spring next year… But that would only be if they suddenly announce they are launch HBO Max UK at the same time as the US, which you’d think they would have done by now. Again, IF this announcement does come, it likely means the Sky Atlantic/HBO carriage deal, which was for 5yrs, so ends next year, isn’t getting renewed either, because why would they sell the shows to Sky if they could put them on their own service?

It is all very odd, and no one is saying anything either way, which is frustrating, so we’re all being kept in the dark… I’ve been trying to get more info, but no one is talking at the moment.

      1+
      • Natasha says:

Okay thank you for the reply. Appreciate all the work you do on this site

      • Andrew says:

Thanks for the update,, have to say I’m devastated as I love Dynasty and I thought this afternoon I’d find it on my Netflix account waiting for me,, this for me is the latest in a long line of USA shows where I’ve been let down via various broadcasters,, almost makes me think I should stop watching tv shows from the states

        0
      • Dave Beattie says:

I was just popping in to muse on the very same question and ask if you/anyone knows exactly when the current Sky/HBO rights deal is due to expire? I know it’s sometime in 2020.

I also wondered if there might be some potential for Sky to keep the linear rights and just lose the on demand rights – talking about regular HBO shows. Though I assume they probably get to keep the rights to future seasons of existing shows in any case with brand new shows premiering on HBO Max – if that does indeed become a UK thing – similar to the deal between the CW and Netflix in the US where Netflix have kept the rights to current shows but aren’t getting the new ones.

        • Dave Elliott Dave Elliott says:

Looking back, it seems 5yr extension of the Sky/HBO deal was announced in Jan 2014, but the original 5yr deal was announced in July 2010, so I would guess July 2020.

Sky still (at the moment) have a production deal to co-produce shows with HBO, signed in 2017, which was a “multi-year” (not sure how long) $250-million co-financing deal to develop and produce high-end drama. Given that just produced the multi-award-winning Chernobyl, you’d think they would want that to continue, so neither side would want to see the relationship completely sour.

IF (and it is all still speculation at this point!) Warner do launch HBO Max and Sky loses all the HBO content next year, you might see a situation where HBO Max is integrated as an app, like Netflix currently is/can be, to the Sky Q box. You could also have the co-production deal continue, with Sky getting the premiere in the UK, and HBO getting it in the US.

Regarding the CW shows, that does seem to be the case. Sky have retained Flash/Arrow/Supergirl, and (probably) Legends, but, if we believe what the SkyHelpTeam twitter is saying, they weren’t even offered Batwoman, much like what has happened with CW and Netflix in the US.

There is definitely something going on with the WarnerMedia shows, which has affected the Warner/Netflix deals internationally. So far, there is no sign of Black Lightning at all, and Dynasty has been booted to 2020 as a box set rather than next day release. There’s also the whole Supernatural issue with E4… Hard to say if that is a case of E4 not being offered it (like with Batwoman), or Warner asking a stupidly high price for it that makes the show not a worthwhile pickup for them.

          • Dave Beattie says:

Thanks for that. I do know that – although the original Sky/HBO deal was signed in 2010 – Sky Atlantic didn’t actually launch until February 2011. Not sure if that’s relevant though.

It definitely runs out in 2020, so that could mean Feb 2020 or it could be July… We’ll have to wait and see, although I hope we get an announcement about what is happening one way or the other soon!

Universal seem to be late with SVU, The Resident and Chicago Med this year? Maybe waiting until the new year to avoid breaks?

    0
    • Dave Elliott Dave Elliott says:

I’m not sure. There is something going on with Universal at the moment, I think due to Comcast (who also own NBC Universal) now owning Sky. They seem to be shifting some shows around to the Sky channels, and there have been no new premieres announced for Universal for a while. I do wonder if they’re going to wind it down entirely, but there has been no official announcement about that so far. Chicago Med is definitely moving to Sky Witness, and it’s possible SVU is doing the same. Sky do tend to hold things to remove the breaks though, so in a roundabout way, you are possibly correct! 🙂

My (optimistic) guess with Batwoman is that if Sky have the broadcasting rights for it, they will show it early next year in the Arrow slot when Arrow finishes. In this regard they will probably show the batwoman cross over episode within the cross over event. That said they may actually delay the cross over episodes of all arrowverse episodes until early next year to allow for Batwoman to catch up to the event.

I have no evidence for this of course but just speculation.

I have pointed out to them that without the Batwoman series, that totally screws up the crossover episodes, and what a major event this crossover in particular is for those of us that have been following the Arrowverse for the past 7yrs. Even if they don’t get the whole series, they need the Batwoman eps of the crossover. I don’t know if it will do any good, but I have been making that point to them.

It’s one of those weird situations where the show is produced internationally (TF1 in France, VOX in Germany, and NBCUniversal International Studios), so the renewal isn’t straightforward as everyone has to sign up again, or they have to alter the deals. Shows like that always take forever to get renewed as they have to wait for everyone to air it (the US only aired in Feb 2019), and then have to agree to all parties signing up again. At the moment, there is no official announcement one way or the other.
