Tom Mison Joins Damon Lindelof’s ‘Watchmen’ Pilot For HBO

‘Sleepy Hollow’ star Tom Mison is heading back to TV having landed a leading role in Damon Lindelof’s ‘Watchmen’ pilot it has been announced.

The new series is based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ seminal graphic novel, set in an alternate reality where superheroes exist, but are treated like outlaws. The tv series will not be a direct adaptation of the comic books, but a “remixed” version. As Lindelof describes it as a new original story that will “vibrate with the seismic unpredictability of its own tectonic plates”, with the original twelve issues of the comic being “our Old Testament.”

Mison is best known for his recent stint playing Ichabod Crane in Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci adaptation of the Washington Irving’s ‘Sleepy Hollow’. He previously worked for HBO on the BBC/HBO mini-series ‘Parade’s End’, and also starred with Ewan McGregor in the movie ‘Salmon Fishing in the Yemen’.

Alongside Tom, there were two more cast announcements. There are Frances Fisher, whose credits include ‘Masters of Sex’, ‘Touch’, ‘Torchwood’ and playing Kate Winslet’s mother in ‘Titanic’; And Jacob Ming-Trent, who has starred in ‘White Famous’, ‘Feed the Beast’, and the film ‘SuperFly’.

As with all the casting, we don’t know who anyone will be playing as yet the actual characters on the show are being kept a tightly guarded secret. However, the new trio will join an already impressive cast, which includes the recently announced Jeremy Irons (‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’), Regina King (‘The Leftovers’), Don Johnson (‘Miami Vice’), Tim Blake Nelson (‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’), Louis Gossett Jr. (‘Hap and Leonard’, ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’), Adelaide Clemens (‘Rectify’) and Andrew Howard (‘Hell on Wheels’).

Lindelof is writing the script and will exec produce the show with Nicole Kassell, who will direct the pilot. The series will be produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with WB Television. ‘Watchmen’ is only at the pilot stage right now, so may not make it to series, but we’ll let you know when we hear more.
