Netflix Renews ‘The Witcher’ For A 5th & Final Season As Season 4 Begins Production

The end is nigh for The Witcher, as Netflix announces the show has been renewed for a 5th and final season as Season 4 begins production. The seasons are being shot back-to-back and will cover the three remaining Andrzej Sapkowski novels in the series.

Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, ‘The Witcher’ is an epic tale of fate and family. The story of the intertwined destinies of three individuals in the vast world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.

Geralt will look a little different in the fourth season, as Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, Most Dangerous Game, Neighbours) picks up the sword for the last two seasons after the departure of OG Geralt, Henry Cavill.

“As a Witcher fan, I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” stated Hemsworth. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure. Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

Season 4 follows the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out Season 3. Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri are separated and traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again.

“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia,” creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich told Netflix. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”

The season sees Hemsworth join Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri, Joey Batey as Jaskier, Meng’er Zhang as Milva, and Bart Edwards as Emhyr, alongside some other returning faces.

On the new cast front, we have Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix trilogy, The School for Good and Evil) as Regis, a world-wise barber-surgeon with a mysterious past; Sharlto Copley (District 9) as the infamous bounty hunter Leo Bonhart; James Purefoy (The Following) as Skellen, Emhyr’s court advisor and high-ranking spy; and Danny Woodburn (Watchmen) as Zoltan, the fan-favorite dwarf from the books and games.

Showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich returns to helm seasons four and five, which will be based on the three remaining books: Baptism of FireThe Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake.

The Witcher‘ Season 4 does not have a premiere date but is expected to land in 2025 on Netflix UK and worldwide. If you want to keep track of this or any other show, you can add them via our Never Miss system, and you’ll be notified when it gets a UK premiere date.
