I am Andy Whitfield.
I am Andy Whitfield.
No, I am Andy Whitfield.
It may not seem like a year has passed, but sadly it was one year ago to the day that the original lead in the Spartacus series, Andy Whitfield, passed away. British-born and having later moved to Australia, Whitfield was diagnosed with and treated for lymphoma following filiming of the first series, Spartacus: Blood And Sand. His illness caused the network to fill the gap with Gods of the Arena, but unfortunately the cancer returned and Whitfield was forced to leave the role.
The show must go on, as they say, and New Zealander Liam McIntyre was cast in the follow-up Spartacus: Vengeance. To round off the series, a third and final part named War of the Damned will air on Sky1 early in 2013.
Please keep your eyes on our airdates page for more details, but in the meantime, here is the trailer from its American host network Starz.
Rest In Peace, Andy.
